Saw a 500x for the first time, not on the road but on a dealers display.

The thing that I felt really let it down is that it was the most boring beige colour imaginable, seriously fiat what were you thinking, no car deserves to be beige!!!

Did you not learn from the 70s !!!

I agree with you on the hearing aid beige colour - I saw one this morning when picking up my new Panda Cross. That kind of drab colour may work on the 500, where it contributes to the retro vibe, but on the 500x it's just horrid. If they've chosen this as a launch colour, they need their corporate head examining.

Got other half to take a pic on way to work this morning so you can all see just how ugly a colour this is

It comes in four different types of colour Solid, Pastel, Metallic & Special.

That is a 'City Look' version and in one of the pastel colours and is certainly not the best looking. It's is a curious choice for one to have in a dealership if you are trying to promote a car.

There are much better eye catching colours they could have gone for that is for sure.

I've seen a couple now, on the road, driving. A metallic red on like some of the reviews, and a dark bluey/purple.

I like them! I don't think...'wowwww that's gorgeous' but I do think...'hmm, that could be a grower'

Hopefully they'll sell well. They do look to be quite expensive though..on the price lists, at least.

I've seen one on the road so far, think it was a Fiat Press or company car, as the reg number was very similar to ones in the car magazines (starting RV15) and it was being driven round the M25, not far from Fiat UK HQ and in typical car magazine testing territory. It was 'Amalfi Yellow' and looked really good, but then with the paint alone costing £1000, it ought to!

Seen a navy blue and the hearing aid beige in the local dealer too - the navy looks good & would be my choice (I'd have yellow, but not at £1000). The beige is OK, Renault do the Captur in a similar colour I think, but I prefer other colours.

In a refreshing break from the norm for Fiat, the press cars and dealer cars seem to be a variety of colours - as well as the hearing aid beige and navy blue, I've seen on Auto Trader a dark green & a deep red, and in car magazines I've seen both red and silver, as well as the yellow on the road - much better than hundreds of the same colour like they've done in the past.

Only trouble is price - £18,000 for a petrol PopStar (albeit a 140bhp turbo) with Metallic Paint. I was hoping the Parents would get one, but that's not happening, they've bought an equivalent spec Juke for £2k less :(

Not enough little blue pills to go around? :D

I do love the advert - so much better than the launch ad for the 500L with those cheesy kids.

Of course, it helps that the 500X actually looks a bit like a pumped-up 500 on steroids, whereas the 500L simply doesn't.

They are well over the top on pricing, however - especially for the 4x4 versions. I can see them being heavily discounted quite soon, which the 500 managed to avoid for the first few years of its existence.

Having said that, I wouldn't look twice at a 500L, but I'd consider a 500X 4x4 at some point in the future, if the price is right.

if its anything like the 500L you'll be able to buy a used one in 18 months for about half the price they were new.

the 500L has terrible depreciation

What were they thinking of?

Designing a highly practical car perhaps?

OK aesthetically it's not brilliant but it's a great vehicle to own and use day to day and on long journeys if you are in the market for that category of vehicle.

I generally find people who have never driven or owned one are it's biggest critics and it's normally purely base on it's looks.

Fair enough, point taken, and I plead guilty on all counts. I think I might have warmed to it more if they'd called it Giant Panda.

The branding is all wrong I agree, they are just using the success of the 500 now to bolster other models in the range that really should have their own identity, I include the X inthat too.

Of course BMW have tread the same path with the Minis, and now produce Minis that are far from 'Mini' at all.

Are they actually based on the 500 at all (apart from the branding etc) - ie sharing parts / floor plans?

Right, ok, in that case, I should point the 500L guides over from the 500 to the 500X.

And create a shared download area for them too?

In not sure they are similar enough, it's a shared platform so similar suspension parts engines gearboxes etc but the car it's self is very different
