Hi All,

First time poster here - I've had my 2014 500L for over a year now, having got it used with about 3500 miles on it. She just crested 16000 miles. Previously, I changed the oil at about 8000 miles, before any dash light came on. (dealership had a special.)

This weekend, I had a panic attack over a light on the dashboard, and the response from the dealership actually goes against what's in the manual. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation. (didn't find anything in the archives when I searched.)

The red blinking light I saw was definitely the low oil pressure light. In the images I've attached, it's the one of the old-school oil can, with the drip at the tip. When I saw it go on, I immediately pulled over, checked the oil level after 5 minutes, double-checked the manual, and then took it to the dealer (fortunately only 3 blocks away.)

This morning, the dealer calls me to tell me that was just a "normal" indicator that it was time to change the oil. :bang:

I thought that the only "change oil" indicator was from the center text area, between the RPM/MPH gauges, but the dealership was insistent that there wasn't anything logged in the computer, no events indicating a low pressure state, and the blinking light was just an alert to change the oil.

Do others see this happen at oil change intervals??

Hi,
my manual says about this warning light
- if turned on steadily, it indicates that the oil pressure is too low
- if blinking, the oil is degraded and should be changed
(for both it explicitly states 'for versions and markets where foreseen' :D)

Furthermore, 'for versions / markets where foreseen' a message should be displayed.

So it seems your dealer was right. Do you have the most recent version of the user manual ? (can be downloaded at http://aftersales.fiat.com/elum )

Was it a warm day or were you in standing traffic for a while? I wonder if the engine got a little warm and the oil thinned to the point that it triggered the oil degradation sensor?

Thanks for the link, and the reassurance. The link to the NEW owners manual helped as well. I've clipped the relevant page - VASTLY different from the pics I posted from the USA manual. The light indeed does blink when the oil is too old. The dealership thought I was nuts at first, but I broke out the owner's manual I was referencing, and they agreed it was vague and misleading. First time in a long time I was called to RTFM, and the Manual was WRONG! :D:D:D
