Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone uses a rear two cycle carrier for their 500L?

I would prefer a high mount so that I don't need to use a lighting board. I don't want to go to the expense of having a tow bar or electrics fitted as I plan to change the car next year.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Steve

Hi
As far as I am aware boot cycle carriers are not recommended for our car, I too am looking at my options for carrying 2 bikes. I tried to get one from RoofBox but it came up with not possible to use rear boot mounted cycle carrier. I have gone with Fiat roof bars and cycle carrier on the roof.
Somebody on here may know more information hope this helps.

Thanks anda1961, you seem to have come to the same conclusion as me then... although I have the lounge with a glass roof so don't think I can use roof bars either?

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve
My lounge model has the full panoramic sunroof too and I got genuine Fiat roof bars as they say fit sunroof models. Just hope I am right lol and I can use, as running out of options left with this car apart from fitting a tow bar.

I recently purchased a saris grand fondo 2 for my giulietta. Having seen reviews with it mounted on the tailgate of aVW transporter I thought I'd give it a try on the 500L MPW (lounge). Seems to work a treat. Makes the car rather long so adds some parking issues but keeps the lights and numberplate clear so no need for a tailboard and less drag than roof mounting (which I imagine it's a bit of a stretch on the 500L!
It's a neat design but ain't cheap. Shop around and you can get them for around £160. Also doesn't really fold easily so takes up a fair bit of space in the car when not in use.

Thanks for the response and photo Tynymyny, looks good but I decided to go for the towbar option in the end, and a Thule carrier.

Anda1961, just seen another post from you, looks like you went the towbar option too? I was told I need dedicated electrics for the record and its being fitted tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on,

Thanks all, Steve

Hi Steve
Thanks I have gone down the towbar option too along with dedicated electrics the guy fitting it was a bit iffy about fitting universal electrics. Getting fitted tomorrow as also going to pull a small camping trailer too.
Gone with a tent rather than caravan as I feel the 500L isn't really a towing car.

Well the towbar is on, they did a very neat job and the dedicated electrics mean the reversing sensor is disconnected when the carrier is on... bonus :)

Hope your fitting went OK Anda1961?

Hi Steve
looks very good and safe too, thanks I got my towbar fitted yesterday long story but ended up getting a flange towbar instead of the swan neck I asked for. Still it will serve its purpose and tow my trailer.
