Had a crack in windscreen and it was replaced by AutoWindscreens (insurance job). Took it to FIAT dealer to get city-brake camera re-calibrated. They say that's fixed and the warning lamp doesn't come on any more.

However they've just told me that AutoWindscreens have fitted a 'plain' windscreen. The bits that go around the camera/sensor have been taken off the old windscreen and attached to the new one. So now the rain sensor and darkness sensor don't work. The dealer says it's because the alignment isn't good enough. Also the trim wasn't put back correctly.

Does it sound reasonable that it's AutoWindscreen's fault?
Is the city-brake camera a separate piece of kit from the rain/dark sensor? If not, why is the city-brake part OK but not the sensors?

The FIAT dealer will give me their report but I am wondering what course of action to take.

Thanks all.

Take the dealer report, and send a copy to Auto Windscreens and raise it as a warranty issue. Also make sure that they do not invoice your insurer for another windscreen (or even the difference between the two).

Thanks Gla55man.
  • So there are non-FIAT windscreens made to fit FIATs?
Just driven the car home from the dealer.
The city-brake warning lamp doesn't come on, as the dealer said.
And the auto headlamps seem to be working fine! Not what the dealer said.
I'll see if the rain sensor works too (won't have to wait too long for some rain I suppose).
If it doesn't I'll get in touch with AutoWindscreens.

Yes. You have genuine, 'OE' glass and aftermarket. Despite what anyone tells you, if the glass (or part) does not bear the car manufacturer's logo, it usually means it's not as good as one that does.
