My key (plain key, not remote controle) gets stuck in the door lock.

In few occasions I hardly pull it out. I thought that I would rip whole lock out or break the key if I keep pulling it. So I lubricated the lock, and it worked fine for few months, but then problem reappeared.

When it is wet outside, there are drops of water on the key after pulling it out from the lock (meaning the lock itself is wet inside).

Does anybody has similar problem (if anyone uses a plain key to open the door)?

Most locks have a flap on the outer part, to keep most water out. This gets stuck in the open position, and the lock lube dries out.

WD40 will help free it, but tends not to last long. Proper lock lube, or a dry PTFE spray work better and last longer.

Spray contact cleaner into the lock, try to free off the little flap. Allow to dry out, and lubricate with lock lube or PTFE.

Check the key is not bent.

Hi, and good 1st post:)

does it do it with other key..??

I suspect it is rain water related,

a lock internal tumbler is generally best lubricated with a Graphite Dust,
but I'm unsure of it's properties with water..
so a PTFE spray MAY be a better solution..,

I never saw that flap got stuck in open postition (not that I was paying attention to that, but I would probably noticed it somtimes).

The key isn'n bent. The other key (with remote controle) also getting stuck.

Anyway, thanks for the PFTE spray advice.

OK,
definitely a LOCK issue.., not just a bad key;)

try and flush out the lock( WD40)

then lubricate ( PTFE / graphite) - be wary of the PTFE going too thick / stiff at VERY low temps
I suppose it's no worse than frozen water..

hope it keeps the winter weather out(y)
