Off on my holiday to France soon and just wanted to know if there is a huge difference between Sans Plomb 95 and the 98 version?

95 is normal unleaded, 98 is "premium" or "super" unleaded. It's just the octane number. 95 is fine for your 500L, 98 will not give any better performance.

Thanks for the info, it's been a few years since I was there last and I couldn't recall what I used. One more thing to tick off the old list lol

BE AWARE..!!!!
95 sans plomp contains more than 10% ethanol in France, lot's of foreign cars broke down sooner or later because of that...!!
98 sans plomp, or even better premium fuell contains less than 5% ethanol in France..
So there's a HUGE difference in both..!! :nono:

found this
Ethanol blended petrol in France

SP95-E10 (Sans Plomb 95 Octane, Ethanol 10% = Lead Free 95 Octane containing 10% of Ethanol) is already being sold throughout France.

This fuel is not suitable for use in all cars and you should check compatibility with your vehicle manufacturer before using it. If in doubt use the standard SP95 or SP98 Octane unleaded fuel which continues to be available alongside the new fuel.

I have looked on the E.Leclerc website as I have found this to be one of the more better prices in the past and it still shows as them having the following types

SP95 - 1.421
SP98 - 1.473
SP 95 E10 - 1.39
Gazole - 1.091

Prices were correct from yesterday. It seems SP95 is still available. Not checked any other supermarket prices.

Not a huge price difference between 95 and 98, still cheaper than here

As said SP98 has less ethanol than SP95-E10
and SP95 no longer exists.

I've never used SP95-E10 in any of my cars it's an eco-con.

Stick with SP98 is my advice. It's always a premium fuel now.
(Total Excellium was my poison of choice for the Alfa.)

Hope you're having fun.

Just curious if SP 95 no longer exists why it's still shown here http://www.e-leclerc.com/st-pol with updated prices each day

Do not leave until Friday night so a few days yet, but I am sure I will have some fun

My understanding is that petrol distributors have to sell a certain percentage of ethanol wrt total volume of petrol sold.
If they do not then they get fined.

Taking the majority fuel out of the equation (DERV) the easiest was for them to just drop SP95 from the forecourt and I believe the upped the ethanol in SP98 from 5 to 6%.

I cannot remember the last time I used a pump that had "pure" SP95 available.

Ok so if I get there and they have all 3, SP95,SP98 and the SP95 E10, I am good to use the SP95 otherwise it will be SP98 all the way.

Seems odd as mentioned if you have not used a "pure" SP95 why they still sell this along side the SP95 E10.

Or am I just getting confused with all of this lol

Here's Total's current line up:

I've never, ever seen "SP95 Super Premium" anywhere.
And it already contains 5% ethanol anyway so most people here
will chuck SP95-E10 in and not bother their heads about it.

Just use '98, would be my advice. But that's just based on
15 years of motoring here and nothing else.

Been a while since I filled up over there so probably did use the 98 anyway lol. Always find some niggling thing when looking at what is about :)
