There are four height settings for my headlamps (0, 1, 2 & 3)

According to the handbook settng zero is for just the driver and maybe one passenger aboard, setting 3 is for the car fully loaded with passengers and luggage.

The other evening I adjusted mine to zero as most of the time it's just me rattling around in there... However this caused some irritation to other road users who let me know in no uncertain terms that they were being dazzled

Returned them to setting 3 and the problem was solved.

This doesn't seem right to me, has anyone else got this same problem?

Thanks

Your understanding of how the settings are supposed to work is correct however I have never been flashed with mine on any of the settings and certainly never on 0.

It sounds to me as if there an issue with the alignment of your lights which realistically only a dealer can check accurately, or at least somebody with the correct kit.

However you could carry out a very basic check by parking facing a wall with your lights on. Whilst adjusting the setting from 0 to 3 you should be able to observe the beam rising and falling.

0 should have the beam at its highest point and moving through to 3 you should see the beam lower.

Thanks for your reply MJG... I've done the test with the car parked and watched the beam rise and fall as I've adjusted the setting.

I'll leave it on 3 (lowest) for now until I can get to a dealer and get it checked.

PS I see you're in Cleveland, me too! Well near enough anyway. Can you recommend a dealer? Wentane maybe?

Cheers

We use SG Petch in Middlesbrough. I wouldn't rate them as particularly fantastic but they are where we got both our FIAT's from (We previously had a 500) and they are close to us so convenient.

You shouldn't need to move it off "0" unless towing or heavily loaded
in the boot.

Fiat have a tendency to have the beam set quite low out of the factory anyway.

(Previous cars I've had to have the beam adjusted upwards on "0")

Ask the dealer to check them for you next time you take it in?

I would say to check where your beam is falling and adjust accordingly
instead of blindly following the manual.

Better that than driving blind at night.

Pretty sure I don't dazzle anyone. Unlike the GB plated cars down here.

Some GB cars please! :D

I always fit Eurolites when I am driving in France, though I do note not everybody seems to. One French guy once stopped me in a French supermarket car park, pointed at them fitted to my lights and gave me a very animated thumbs up in approval.

I took that to mean not everybody does, but then you often see cars from mainland Europe here too without them.

I will always use them when I go abroad but I tend to find the cheapest I can get as I do not really do a lot of night driving whilst there so for the use they get they do not need to be anything special. I have purchased these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231342547451?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT for my travels in August/September

They aren't of course just for night driving...quite often you have to use your lights during the day...;)

Eurolites are not really that much more expensive anyway TBH. You need to check you are getting genuine ones though.
