Hi there.

My wife has a 0.9l twin air 500L MPW. I love the engine and the car is great to drive. One question though?

what does that Eco button do? I appreciate the Ronseal aspect of it (it does what it says on the tin) in term of making the car more "Eco" but what does it do to mpg and when is its use recommended?

Any experience from any users?

Adrian

It reduces the power produced by the engine and makes the power steering lighter at low speeds. The lighter power steering is great for getting into tight spaces. The reduced power uses less fuel in stop start/slow traffic but once over city speeds it has to be worked hard to make progress. Good thing is you don't have to stop to change mode so you can decide the mode you need as your going along.

Some people won't use eco mode but I'll switch between the two as the traffic/mood dictates

It doesn't affect the servo of the steering wheel. Not on the 500L. There's a "city" button for that.
I haven't really seen any difference in gas consumption with the eco button engaged. The car get's lazier, so it does something though..

What I know is that I prefer to drive with the eco button engaged in the city, because of longer throttle responsitivity.

Ah thats different to the 500 (which I have) as it does both.

The problem is that as you need to prod the accelerator a bit more if you do any 'enthusiastic' driving in eco mode and you will use more fuel as the engine has to work harder to get the result you need. But I agree it does make relaxed driving easier.

Thanks for the replies. It makes sense to switch to it in stop start traffic and out of it when on the open road. The city button is great on the 500L. My Skoda Superb seems like a tank after being behind the wheel of the Fiat for the weekend.

I had to take it for an ECU software upgrade today. It's running well after it.

I have had very good MPG figures from using the ECO button. It does dull the performance but if you are light on your right foot you can get some good fuel economy with ECO engaged. I tend to switch between both modes and it adds to the fun!

The ECO button engages and disengages the Stop/Start system.
Nothing else.

Doesn't affect performance what-so-ever.

Whoops. I'm wrong.

Looks like Eco on the TwinAir does dial
back the engine.
Not on the 1.6 DERV though...
