Ok so I have noticed an odd ticking noise coming from Bob, at first I thought it was something stuck in the wheel which it wasn't, then I thought maybe something was flapping around underneath (similar to a peg and card on bike spokes) can not see anything underneath. It is hard to try and pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from as now I think it could be coming from around the engine area or somewhere underneath driver side or the passenger side.

Very vague I know but any thoughts on what it might be?

Is it consistent with road or engine speed?

If it is consistent with road speed sometimes something as simple as a stone trapped in the tyre tread can cause this.

De stoned tyres so I know it is not that, it does not happen all the time, I did not notice it driving this morning, will check it on the way home after work and update here.

The ticking sound was still there but again it did not happen all the time, I can hear it more when the passenger window is down so logic would dictate that it is somewhere from that side, it does not seem to be constant but then trying to listen for it whilst other cars around can be hard, next step is to find a nice quiet place (if such a thing) and try again then

Can the sound be located in the area of the cooling box in front of the passenger seat?Since I am also a member of Fiat-Lancia forum in Serbia, and follow every topic regarding the 500l-s , I found one similar problem with the ticking sound that was showing periodically and it turned out to be loose holder of passenger air-bag (and he was not a lonely case)...

Does not sound like it comes from there but will check when the wife is in there next, you can only really hear it when the windows are down and it does sound more of a mechanical tick than just a normal ticking sound if that makes any sense lol

Still sounds like it is from LHS but then I guess it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly, I will be away for a few days so hopefully the dealer can get it looked at when I get back and figure out what it is.

One explanation I had was "It could be the engine pinking as its hot, they sometimes do that if the weather is hot and the engines are not cooling down fast enough" This would be fine if it did not start happening from the initial start first thing on a morning.

Will update again when I get back after seeing the dealer mid to end this coming week

And it's petrol ...It's our neighbours 500l and they are trying to find the reason for that sound...It has only 4000km in it.

Bit hard to say how loud that is from a video? Seems Ok to me.

Especially if YouTube has normalised the volume etc.

Stood next to it,it might be fine/too loud, just don't think you can say there is a fault just from that video?

My TwinAir is noticeably louder when cold (not so inside the car though due to the soundproofing)

I do have to say that listening to that vid. and then listening to mine, which has the same engine that motor in the video sounds noticeably more 'clattery' than mine does.

Fair enough it's not making a direct comparison due to it being a video but it doesn't sound 'right' to me. :)

This is the classic starjet engine right? The rough diesel-like sound is acceptable from my experience on this engine. But the engine on the previous video has some kind of metallic noise if I can hear correctly.

This is mine 95ps starjet.

Ps. After timing belt replace(and re-timing cam) the engine is much more smoother ;)

Sorry for the delay in posting anything back

I have it booked in for next Thursday, took it out for a test yesterday with a service guy from Vospers and he seems to think it might be a loose trim or something else flapping underneath the car.

It does not sound anything like the videos posted as you can only hear it whilst on the move and it is more noticeable when the sound bounces back off of something, it is a constant ticking noise and it does not get faster or slower with speed.

Will post next week after they hopefully figure it out

Well took the car in on Thursday and had a phonecall just after 3PM saying that they are unable to re-create the noise issue I have and they want to keep it the following day as the weather would be better and they would try again, well I kept phoning them yesterday to find out what was going on and they still could not re-create the noise I was getting, and they wanted to keep it longer which was ok but they did not have any courtesy cars available for me while they dig deeper.

I now have my car back until the beginning of September when they have a car available for me to use and mine will go back in, they have also mentioned that they have now heard the noise but it was on and off, funny thing is when I picked it up I had the noise from leaving them all the way home.

Will hopefully keep this updated next month if they figure it out

Well dropped the car off on Monday to Vospers, they called me asking me to go back in on Tuesday because yet again they could not recreate the noise I was getting, took it out for a drive with a different technician to the one that had previously gone out with me and heard the noise and lo and behold the noise was there and the tech heard it at long last, they have had a few dyas to try and sort it which they have not been able to do, they have taken this up with Fiat who have suggested they try doing something to it (never asked what) but this did not do anything and the noise is still there. Luckily I have been given a courtesy car, the downside is it drinks like a bloody fish, contemplating on asking for another that is fuel efficient lol.

We did notice that the noise I was getting only kicked in after the car hit a set speed, I did try and get a recording but a bit awkward hanging out of the car with phone in hand (wife was driving) there was a very faint noise that you could here on play back but most of it was outside noise and wind.

See what happens next week if they can figuer something out
