Hi all, had the 500L for a few weeks now, and recently noticed a rattle from the top of the dashboard. It seems to be positioned in the area of the airbag on the passenger side. It's not constant, but getting more pronounced when travelling over rough or uneven surfaces.

Going to book into dealers for them to look under warranty ( though of course they won't be able to hear it or it won't do it when they drive it) but I wondered if anyone else had experienced this or found out what it was?

We get an occasional rattle but from the area of the heater controls. It is very dependant on traversing a particular type of road surface and luckily not bad enough to warrant a special trip to the dealer so I am leaving it until the first service to mention it.

Let us know what your dealer says as it's good to know in order to advise other members.

Booked in on Wednesday next week, so I will feedback after that. The receptionist did say that she believed I had a "rattly box" so whether this means is something they have experienced before on the 500L or if she was making a personal comment, I dont know!

Hopefully it will actually do it when they test drive it, and its something they can get to without disassembling the entire dashboard and cause more rattles putting it back together. Your really would think after all these years they could build and assemble components without rattles!

Rattely box indeed! I've an intermittent rattle from the sunroof on my new 500 TA, they can be very difficult to pinpoint accurately and can be coming from a different place then you think. On my old Merc I used an aerosol of holts rubber lubricant and sprayed it on various areas and joins on the trim over the years and it was great at stopping squeaks etc. Like you I'm nervous about letting anyone at it in case it just causes more problems. But yes, very annoying and even a small rattle can make a brand new car feel like a junker!

It's brill otherwise. Doesn't help it's intermittent and depends on road surface. Went into Sheffield with it last night (40 mile round trip) and hardly did it at all. This morning taking dogs a couple of miles to have a walk and it did it as I pulled off the drive and down our road! Does sound like it's in the dash on passenger side but I know the acoustics can be odd in cars and noise can travel strangely.

Very keen to hear the results of this one, cos mine does exactly the same. I have mentioned it only once to the dealer and they couldn't identify it. t's still doing it intermittently.

Well tentatively they seem to have sorted it. They said they found that the connector for the glass roof blind switch wasn't connected properly, and also some wiring harness was loose... Not sure where this was though. I said it would be going back if it continued to make the noise. It seems to have gone though. Also there was a recall for a fuel pipe/bracket that had not been done. Small chance of fire according to the VOSA website. Having to go back next Friday for that though as they didn't have the part.

Hi All!

Now we have one of these cars(500L Living) and I have rattled the dashboard on the passenger side. I watch repair shop and found out that the airbag was really pushing up close to the dashboard. The solution to the two screws holding the airbag loosened and let down let slip the bracket, so the gap is increased 3-4m and will not rattle. The two screws behind the lower storage compartment in front of the passenger side.
