Morning all,

I was having a nose on the website of our old dealer, and I came across this on the offers section:

http://www.griffinmill.co.uk/Fiat/index.asp

Seems to indicate a new model, i.e. Pop rather than Pop Star, is on the way?

I wonder if anyone has heard about this at all? I know deeyup has regular dealings with them, so he may be able to help!:D

Personally, I would be interested to see the spec. If this is indeed not a typo, I am guessing it will have less kit than a Pop Star. For me personally, that might not be a massive issue as long as it had aircon.

However, I've also noted the Easy model is not available on the Fiat UK site any more. Given that it had steel wheels, maybe this is part of a slight jig-around with the range?

ed to add - though I see that quoted price is quite a lump below the current list price for a Pop Star which would indicate some things will be stripped from the spec.

There is currently nothing on our dealers web site about this.

There is of course a POP spec. available in the US which seems to sit in the range where our our Pop Star does (with a better engine of course!!)

I wonder if they are just rationalising the names across the markets??

Yeah, I think you might be right with the names.

I am not too surprised your dealer hasn't got anything on their website; it all sounds like it's in the early stages.

But price wise, it could be a very nice deal. We'll have to wait and see!

The price though on your link is quite a lump lower than the list price for a Pop Star implying much more of a 'base' version. There is quite a bit that could be removed from the spec. of a Pop Star to create a 'base' version and bring the price down.

eg Cruise/speed limiter, Electric Mirrors, Bluetooth radio with steering wheel controls, leather wheel and gear stick spring to mind.

As we discovered the Pop Star is pretty well specd. for an entry level model in a range and much better specd. than a 500 Pop for example.

Yes, new model coming, The 500L Pop, limited colour choice and no options, £12,995. :)

Any idea on time scale? My daughter really likes our Pop Star and wants to get a car through a 'salary sacrifice' scheme at work.

The Pop Star would likely be out of her reach but the new 'Pop' might just scrape in.

Nice one mate!:D

Well, as I mentioned earlier it could be a winner.

Thing is, I specced loads of options on our Panda, and if I am being brutally honest, the only one I would 100% spec again is the height adjustable drivers seat (I have no idea why it isn't standard on any of the Pandas, but that's another matter altogether:rolleyes:)

I'm not saying that because I've had major issues; in fact the folding passenger seat has been really handy at times, as has the cargo box, sunglasses holder etc. But do I really NEED any of them? The answer to that is no.

So even though this new 500L model might not have much standard kit, as long as it has the basics then it could be a decent proposition. When you look at the fact a regular 1.2 500 Pop is over ten grand list price, it makes you sit up and take notice...

Do you know if it has aircon at all? Or does your mate who works there want to keep it under tabs for now?!!:)

Now updated on the Fiat UK website.

Comes with Blue&Me as standard along with the Cargo Magic Space load platform in the back, so that's good.

But as deeyup's buddy at the dealer said, there are no options at all, other than the choice of three colours.

For me personally, it has everything that I would want - except aircon, which you cannot even spec as an option:(

I just think that Fiat's choice of what to include and exclude in cars are so, so odd at times. I appreciate that the whole point of this model is for it to be basic, but you can spec aircon in every other "Pop" model in the Fiat range. I think no aircon option at all for a car that costs nearly 13 grand is just plain daft...

Further to my post above, I've actually got in touch with Fiat CS to raise this point.

I've worked out this new 500L 1.4 Pop will be literally the ONLY model in the entire Fiat range to have no air conditioning as standard or as an option. That to me is absolutely nuts!

I wouldn't have bothered normally, but the car's standard spec has everything we want otherwise. The free colour is red as well which is our favourite! It's so frustrating...

Only good thing is that we won't be in a position until next year to buy one, so hopefully things might change between now and then...

It does seem an extraordinary omission, particularly from the options list I agree. Hopefully they will see the folly of this and at least offer it as an option at some point in the not too distant future.

I can fully understand it being omitted from the standard spec. but not to make it available as an option will to me severely curtail potential sales and move people onto other MPV's some of which include A/C as standard even on the base model but at the very least as an option or part of an upgrade 'pack'.

Very poor....:(

I agree with you. I have no issue whatsoever with certain options not being fitted as standard as it is the base model, but you need to offer at least a few optional extras, especially something as important as air con.

People will all have their opinions, and maybe there are some people out there who don't care about air conditioning who will buy it. But we have used it virtually every day for the past two months in the Panda as the weather has been so wet and miserable; it helps of course to keep the windows clear.

Anyway, we will see what happens...:)

Are you definitely after a new vehicle? - come next year there could be a few low mileage used Pop Stars knocking about in the system.

That will get you the A/C plus all the other stuff along with the balance of the warranty.

Yeah, that's not a bad shout. I wouldn't completely rule out a used car to be honest, especially some of the very low mileage ones that are a year or so old.

If possible, I'd probably try and get one of the Easy models as they don't have alloys. I know that might sound mad but I genuinely don't want them! The roads in Devon are unforgiving and having steel wheels is just a lot easier IMO, particularly in terms of maintenance.

I will watch out for for that we are holidaying in Devon in June....(y)

No options saves costs, can build them in batches all the same, faster to build. £13k list for a 500L is really good, should be able to get one for little over £10500, nearly half the cost of a lounge or trekking! Could have both ends in one family, Pop for the wife etc. Probably should have made it standard and £500 more. How basic is it otherwise would be worth checking? Adjustable steering wheel, drivers seat height? Touch screen radio? Electric windows? Rear drums? ESP? Etc.

This is the standard kit for the 1.4 Pop copied from the website:

5" Touchscreen Radio with Bluetooth
Leather Steering Wheel with Audio Controls
Comfort/Functionality
12v Point
Cargo Magic Space: height adjustable load platform
Dualdrive Power Steering
Electric Front Windows
Heated Rear Window
Height Adjustable Driver's Seat
Height Adjustable Steering Wheel
Remote Control Central Door Locking
Space Saver Spare Wheel
Airbag: Driver's
Airbag: Passenger
Airbags: Front Side
Airbags: Window
Central Locking
Deadlocks
ESC (Electronic Stability Control) including ASR/MSR, Hill Holder, ABS+EBD, ERM, DST & BAS
Fix&Go Puncture Repair Kit
Heated Rear Window with Wash/Wiper
Body Coloured Bumpers
Leather Gear Knob

Only thing I can spot missing out of that list (apart from aircon, lol) is electric mirrors? Other than that, it is well specced. I can at least give it some credit!:)

Edit: looks like remote central locking missing as well, the Pop Star spec on the website specifies "Remote Control Central Door Locking". I really hope it's just an oversight...

You've confused me, that's the same thing isn't it?

What am I missing?

The other thing that i missing is a space saver wheel. That spec. is for a 'Fix 'n' go', the Pop star has a space saver wheel (unless it has the upgraded audio)

Wow...either I'm going mad, or the website has been updated in the last little while!

The Pop spec now says remote central locking on the Fiat UK website, so all is good. I would have been really shocked if that was missing...

If they can just add aircon to the spec now, we'll all be sorted lol!
