I have to put a new door handle on my gfs Fiat 500 today and I have been looking around and seen a lot of guides as it seems to be a common fault, the only issue is, most guides only replace the hinge but I need to replace the entire handle

I can't find a guide that covers moving the lock cylinder from the old handle to a new one, is anyone aware of one they can share or has anyone done it before

Thanks, Niall

Hello and welcome to the forum.

@typecastboy is the expert on swapping locks & handles; IIRC the trick is that you can only remove the lock barrel with the key in the lock.

Thank you

I took a look through his post history, seems you are right, it is just down to having the key in the lock, I will be doing it after work today so fingers crossed there isn't much more to it

The handle has a C clip you poke out as you turn and pull the key out. The clip is of the "Jesus" type, as in, Jesus, where the F did that go! New handle has one prefitted. The lock just pushed back in with the key in the lock. Crack on.

Changing the lock is the easy but, getting the darn handle out the door is my least liked job on the 500. Second only to doing a repair kit on the handle hinge.
Anybody doing this or any job involving disturbing the membrane behind the door panel, make sure the membrane is resealed or replaced. We've seen water leaks into the interior caused by poor sealing.
