New member looking for a 500

Well not me exactly but my daughter.
So many to choose from but due to insurance I think the 1.2 is the best bet for her and we thought we had found the perfect example BUT the deal breaker was no aux input which is a massive deal for her as she only ever listens to music via her phone.
What model or year of car will guarantee at the very least an aux input so that I know what to look out for.
Thanks.

To guarantee auxiliary you would be looking at the lounge spec as it's an option in the pop and most of the limited runs like colour therapy. The lounge also has blue and me handsfree and air conditioning which are both options on the pop.

If I may I would suggest that you and your daughter make a list. Whenever I'm in buying a car I make a list with our wants, needs and the budget. When I was looking around for the 500 for my partner our list of NEEDS were colour (blue), blue and me (handsfree), air con, rear head rests and twinair. I ended up finding a 2013 colour therapy with all these.

Re: New member looking for a 500

The search certainly is not going to be a quick one as she has her heart set on a cream one which seems to be one of the more unusual colours.
At the moment all she is worried about is aux but I would like her to have air con and Bluetooth so that she wont be getting into trouble.
Looks like she will need to up her budget if she starts looking at lounge models as they seem much pricier.
Thanks foambullets thanked for this post

Hi, and welcome,

any idea what age of 500 is your budget going to restrict you to..?

the basic trim / spec may be searched easily through a car buyers site..

with the options list to narrow down your search

The search for the right car usually takes some time. It took me three months to find the 500.

She has a max budget of 6k and there does seem to be a wide range of years for roughly the same money.

6k should get her a nice 13 or 14 only problem being is that colour is desirable.

Re: New member looking for a 500

Your daughter may be able to transfer her music onto a 10 usb stick and play it thru the usb port. It save the phones battery and would prevent any phone faffing whilst driving. I've about 3000 songs arranged in folders on a 32gb Sandisk thumb drive. I modded the wiring off the radio and added an aux but to be honest I never use it now.

You may pay significantly more for a later model or higher spec car compared to the one you've spotted.

A second option would be to replace the stereo for one that has an aux built in. This option however would render most of the steering wheel controls useless.

WeBuyAnyCar offered me 5800 for both 63 plate 500s the other week, so a dealer is going to add some on this. WBAC don't take into account any options of course. In reality according to Autotrader, i would need to spend 8850 to replace this TwinAir with some of the options.

A 1.2 is more realistic on the budget... Low mileage and service history is more important than age!

I managed to pick up a very nice 1.2 Sport convertible (2 1/2 years old with 9300 miles) last year. I had in fact been looking for a TwinAir convertible at the time... but couldn't find a decent 2-3 year old example with low mileage for the budget of 9000. This 1.2 was on the main dealer forecourt for 9999, advertised in Autotrader for 8300. As it had been on the forecourt for 59 days and they had a sale on... I paid 7350.. Car was like new with a full service history.

I picked up my 13 reg very well optioned twinair colour therapy last August from a fiat dealer for 5600 fsh, low mileage, one owner and in good nick. Looking at auto trader they seem to have stayed between 4.8-6.5k so I do think the op can pick up one in their budget.

Re: New member looking for a 500

I think we are going to look out for a sport model as they seem to be of a decent spec and the insurance group website that I was on has the sport model down as the lowest insurance group, is that right.

Isn't Typecastboy about to do a twin air? Might be worth asking/waiting just a thought?
