Hi can anyone help? I was renewing my air filter today on my 2012 Fiat 500 c 1.2 lounge convertible and struggled to release the rear of the housing from its rubber grommet. When I succeeded I noticed I had snapped off a thin (4mm approx) pipe that protruded from underneath the rear of the housing, connecting to a rubber pipe about a centimetre thick disappearing towards the bulkhead. (The thicker pipe running to the front top of the engine was fine.)
My questions are; what is this thinner pipe for? and is it crucial I have this repaired soonest?
I put the housing back together and took the car for a short run and all seems well so far...
I was also unable to find a schematic of the housing on-line, in order to see if that pipe connection can be purchased as a separate little part, or if the whole rear of the housing is required?
Any help appreciated.

One of the most popular faults on the car-even dealers snap them off
easiest way is get a complete unit from flea bay or there is a mod listed on this site-if you leave it off, you will get fumes in the cabin-the pipe is one of the crank case breathers and needs to be repaired-it will run ok without it but not to full efficiency

Many thanks... I am interested in the 'mod' you mentioned....particularly if it means I avoid buying the whole box....
Not sure where to start looking though? Nothing popped up on an initial search...
Any pointers greatly appreciated...:)

Take a look at this thread.

Don't be too hard on yourself as it may already have been damaged before you started to remove it.

The spigot on the airbox is incredibly fragile and many will have been weakened or broken by dealers during servicing. If doing this yourself, I recommend folks first remove the airbox from the intake before trying to take off the two breather pipes; this makes it much less likely that you'll break something. It also helps if you remove the other end of the large breather from the cam cover first, as then you only have the smaller breather to worry about and can pull the airbox away with the large breather still attached. Put it all back in the reverse order.

Sadly you can't buy the spigot separately; you have to buy the whole airbox, which is silly money if bought new. The problem with buying from a breakers is that there's a good chance the spigot will have been damaged already. If you have access to a lathe & machine tools, you could make a much better replacement spigot out of brass stock.

Here's a picture of the mod, showing the attachment points for the small and large breathers.

That's exactly what happened to me (that's my picture ) I fixed it by prizing out the broken off bit from the tube, cleaned both air box and bit in hot soapy water, cleaned the mating areas with "brake cleaner" glued the spigot on with super glue, applied epoxy glue over super glue allow to set, wound fine wire round repair and applied more epoxy glue and heated it to set and fill any small areas, leave overnight to properly set.
Replace breather hose if it feels hard in any way, once replaced, lubricate the spigot with silicone grease, gently slide new hose over spigot, reposition air box and push down at rear and replace bolts job done!
If need be run a fine drill bit very carefully through the center of the spigot to clear the hole one fixed.
It was also suggested that screen washer hose pipe conector parts may be able to be fashioned into a fix?

Managed to successfully reattach the small spigot using a combo of 3 interwoven zip-ties which seems very firm.
Also changed the sparkplugs.... which was not as easy as I had hoped! ... because the 'boots' were stuck.
I managed to lift them from the very bottom edges by fashioning a piece of strong wire to reach under and hook them up. All good now and the engine felt lively during a long run out this afternoon.
(Just a few knuckle scrapes... lol)

No I fashioned it on a picture I saw of the 'Lisle 51250 wire sparkplug boot puller' which was advertised for sale on Ebay ....although I think it was via the USA....
