Hi guys, sorry if I've posted this in the completely wrong place it's the first time I've used this forum!!
However, I have a rattling underneath, sounding like a loose exhaust or something. It happens when I'm driving down a road that has bumps or causes excess movement to the car.
My friend also has exactly the same noise but much worse, I'm wondering whether this is a common thing with all 500's and anyone knows what it is?

the only way to find out what your problem is is to get the car up on ramps and get under the car and investigate the same as you would have to do with any cars with rattling under the car

It could be a loose exhaust hanger. It's usually just a rubber donut that hooks onto the chassis. The rubber may have fallen off the hook or it may have perished and needs replacing. They're only aboot £3... so not too severe.

The car has already been 'thoroughly' looked over by fiat at a courtesy check, which they said was fine and could find no rattling even when they took it out on the road to listen for the noise themselves.
Hence why I'm asking on here so I can find a better answer
They just seemed to cut corners.

Have a friend sit in the rear And go for a drive see if they can work out a rough direction? Rear shocks only last 4 years.

I have this same issue, have done for about a month and a half that I've known about. Had it at the garage on Monday when my boyfriend got his car MOT And although they hear the noise when going over speedbumps, they checked thoroughly under the car, moving and pushing all bits that could make the noise, and couldn't find anything wrong. They've said to wait until it worsens, which it might not, and then it'll be easier to pinpoint x

I had to replace all the front suspension components as they made a terrible noise going over speed humps, not a knocking?rattling noise more a rubber squashing type noise.
Its not the exhaust (trim) hitting the bottom edge of the bumper, my aftermarket one does sometimes but only on really big humps.

The rattling that you maybe hearing is the heat shield that covers the back box on lounges,my 1.3 diesel was making the same noise took it to the main dealers they said that they rust and the splits it gets bang against the bottom of the boot,maybe this is your problem.

Our TA is a 2011 baby, so maybe ours have already gone?
Somehow I doubt it, but I'm willing to be put right on this.

Sorry Fiat rear shocks seem to last that long, having done the fronts on ours thought I'd check the rears, found they'd already been done by the previous owner.

Just had my rears replaced under warranty at 3 years / 30k, the rubbers on the top mount had disintegrated and I don't drive on rough roads or over many speed bumps, manifested as a rattle on near side going over bumps or rough surfaces

Correct, it seems to be the bushes not the shocks themselves that fail, those(shocks, front at least in my case) rusted through! at 6 years

Anybody idea how much top strut mounts cost to be replaced at a garage? I'm guessing by Goodge that's my issue. Garage couldn't find the problem causing clunk noise when they looked under car and said to leave til gets worse. Looking online if it is the top mounts, this dan damage whole car if left supposedly. Thanks in advance
