I've had the fumey smell issue recently that usually means a cracked breather pipe. took a look in the engine bay today - haven't got as far as actually taking off the engine cover.
as i was looking i noticed this thin rubber hose that snakes off somewhere - but this end is loose.
should it be? - should it be connected to something?
thanks in advance....

Its almost certainly the "small" breather hose that connects to the underneath of the air box, it pushes on at the rear to a thin nipple, remove the two bolts that hold the air box down then pull it upwards at the rear you should be able to see where it goes, be careful if the pipe is hard replace it, the nipple can snap off as I found out only this last week. Once on push the air box down at the rear onto its locating bush and replace the bolts.
