it looks like it was a "we have to put in a screen, just stick it there, that will do" there's no style to it, its integration just looks like a after thought?

:yeahthat:

It looks to me like someone just glued a 5yr old budget smartphone to the air vents (n).

That screen is maybe 10% of the size it needs to be, and that's being generous.

Take a look at a similar fitting in a Tesla. That 17" touchscreen is even more impressive in the flesh. Start from about 1:58 if you want to go straight to the touchscreen.

Now the tesla screen takes the ****. I would find it impossible to live with. Indeed no car needs any kind of screen other than for sat Nav. This buy a media server and get a car fitted to it ******** annoys me immensely. There are very few adjustments or information details a safe driver should require and a massive screen does not do it.

I agree apart from the media screen, it looks like it was a "we have to put in a screen, just stick it there, that will do" there's no style to it, its integration just looks like a after thought?

I guess you can't please everyone.[emoji35]

I actually like it. Its non intrusive and fits well with the design of the car
Although i prefer the way this one looks IMG_0104.JPG

The tesla is on a whole different level, its supposed to be the car of the future and the big touch screen suits it

Have been driven in the Tesla. There need be absolutely no connection between the technology in the car and the size of the screen!!!! It is ludicrous. As are the door handles that automatically motorise flush to the door panels. Tesla are wasting development effort on frills and are forgetting profit and need for a sustainable sensible vehicle.

I don't see the problem with the UConnect screen in the 500. Think they've actually done a good job of integrating it with the existing dash design with only minimal alterations such as the different air vents.

The standard screen (5") is too small, but the one shown here is the one used on the 500S and it's 7", which is pretty generous I think. Dunno why you'd need anything much bigger than that.

Fiat are a lot better at integrating their (albeit sometimes too small) screens into the interior design - far better than the way Mercedes and some Audi's have them floating about like someone's just glued an iPad to the dashboard.

Do agree with you here, and other comments ref Fiat and screens. If you are going to have one the best use is sat Nav so it has to sit high and conspicuous. And be a sensible size. It is a design challenge, something Tesla have thrown a wide screen TV at.

More distraction from the road. :roll eyes:

80% of all accidents are Multi Media related.

Its a small screen, hardly a distraction... it doesnt do anything more than what the fiat already does, its just a little better looking than your standard media player

It's about time fiat got with the times, android auto and CarPlay have been about a while now and Ferrari were one of the first manufacturers to install CarPlay, so why fiat are now one of the last is beyond me.

The tesla screen is far too much and dominates the dash, and only needs to be half the size. Finding the menus for all the various things it controls is also not easy and you need to take your eyes off the road to find the right buttons to press. General radio station changes and volume however can be done off steering wheel controls so that's not a big problem.
