USB Stick to play music on Fiat 500?

Hi guys,

I own a Fiat 500 Lounge (2010 model). I'm having issues with the USB port (it's the one with the Windows logo on it) as when i stick in a USB stick it does not play any music.
Do i need to purchase a Blue&Me Fiat adaptor in order to play music directly from the USB stick? or should it still play music without this adaptor?

I'm very confused!

No, but it does have to be formatted correctly & have the music in a form that Blue&Me can play. FAT32 & .mp3 should work just fine.

Thank you for replying!
I had had the car checked at a garage and the guy servicing kept insisting that it only plays music through an iPhone/iPod/other cell phones connected through Blue&Me.

I shall check once again

Well that service guy knows fark hall about Blue&Me then.

Try disconnecting your battery for ten minutes, when I had this problem it sorted it out.

As someone said above, make sure the memory stick is FAT32 formatted. NTFS formatted doesn't work (in mine anyway)

If in doubt, (for Windows) plug it into your laptop/PC and transfer your music off of it onto your laptop drive for safe keeping. Then right click on the memory stick drive in explorer and select format and there you will get a dropdown entitled 'File system' - make sure that says FAT32 and tick quick format then start. It will warn you that you are wiping the stick completely. That will take only a few seconds. Then drag your music back onto the memory stick and try that in your Fiat.

I also read somewhere that 8GB was the max size memory stick that the Blue and Me system would accept but someone else may be able to verify that.
Thanks jessb thanked for this post

Some memory sticks can have issues with being formatted directly from windows; especially if they've fallen victim to a virus and the partition structure has been damaged.

The easiest way to recover them is to use the Hewlett Packard USB Key Formatting tool. You can download it here.

Re: USB Stick to play music on Fiat 500?

I'm total technophobe and I've not had issue. I bought a slim usb memory stick for 4.99 from well known catalogue shop. All my music is on Windows Media Player and it just transferred easily like when burning onto a blank CD-R. The slot for the usb can be unclipped and replaced for around 30 for the part I think. There is a lead under the usb slot I believe which provides the power and makes the head unit recognise it when you press Media on my Panda anyway. Maybe that's loose.

I've always used a 16GB stick in mine with no problems.

The format on the pendrive is correct (FAT32), even the data files are .mp3 type but problem still holds that when I plug in the USB Memory Stick into the USB Slot, no music plays.

Just to make sure, music can be played by:
connecting a mobile phone through Blue&Me via the usb-cable
Or directly when inserting the USB STICK in the usb slot.. no?

Yes.
Works with ours fine.
Apple Mac, memory stick formatted FAT32.

You need to get the radio selected to "Media".

Mick.
