Hello and welcome to the forum .

this morning the clutch pedal will not push down and cannot select any gears when engine turned on. Any help please

Sorry to hear about your problem.

Sounds like you have a fault with the clutch pedal, the clutch hydraulics or the clutch itself.

Start by lying on your back in the drivers footwell and pushing on the clutch pedal by hand - you might be able to see if something's stopping it working correctly*.

Also check the fluid level in the clutch hydraulic reservoir.

After that, it's dismantling time.

*I once had to diagnose a similar fault where the cause was a ladies shoe wedged firmly in the pedal box area. When I relayed the diagnosis, the owner was more concerned about her footwear than the cost of the repair (which basically consisted of cutting away said shoe).

Thanks for the response I have tried this and no look. Do you no where the bleed screw is for the Clutch? Car is been recovered in the morning if we have no joy. Many thanks again

Do you no where the bleed screw is for the Clutch?

Bleed screw is on the slave cylinder on the bellhousing under the battery; if you don't mind working blind, you may be able to bleed the clutch without removing the battery (definitely possible on the 1.2).

Taking a photograph of the area underneath the battery should help you work out what you need to do. This post has such pictures and may be helpful, but bear in mind this is a 1.2 petrol.

Thanks for the replies I will remove the battery and see if I can do anything. It is in its normal park position and it is rock solid maybe 1mm movement if pushed extremely hard. The brakes work fine once engine started. Can I ask sometime also when started the check PAS light comes on but once restarted it goes away.

That could be as simple as needing to replace the battery; The PAS consumes a significant amount of power and a weak battery is well known for triggering this warning.

Put it on charge when you take it off to check the servo and see if that makes a difference; if it does, I'd seriously consider replacing it. Won't help with your clutch problem, though.
