Fiat 500C Lounge with the TA 105 engine - first registered December 2016

Loving my eight-week old 500C - such a brilliant little engine - but getting fed up with the top spec 7" infotainment screen which goes blank every now and then. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for this but it's happened twice in the last 10 days, and perhaps three times in January prior to that, so before taking it to the dealer I wanted to find out if anyone else has had this same issue.

I wondered if it was something to do with the software which throws up the 'Accept' (that you are responsible for using the screen whilst driving) message on startup. When the screen goes blank the radio still works and you can move through the channels using the steering wheel controls but obviously you can't access anything else.

The system seems to reboot itself and work if the engine is shut down and the car locked for five minutes or so, but a simple engine off/restart doesn't work.

All thoughts gratefully received. Other than the wiper blades (changed within two weeks to the amazing Bosch Aerotwins, thanks to the Forum) and the disappointing grip on the tires (chosen for economy over ability to stop in the wet I now know) I absolutely love this fabulous little car. Can't think why I didn't give up my allegiance to the Germans sooner.

Sorry to hear about your issue with the 7" Uconnect radio sat nav.

I don't have this problem, since my 500 TA is a 2011 model.

Since I will get a new 500s in March, I already looked for user experience with this sat nav radio I ordered.

Unfortunately I found in the German Tipo (same or similar sat nav radio device) forum, that users complained about the issue you described.

It has been reported that it occurs quite often.

One user reported that he had seen a post on Italien forum, that an update might be available taking 45 minutes to load up.

I have booked my car in to the dealer in two weeks time, and have already mentioned that I thought it was a software problem. With your information I can now ask them to check for updates. I do have a map update ready to do on my next long journey, which takes an hour to upload from a USB stick, so perhaps that might cure the problem?

I know it’s been a while, but did you get the problem resolved?

Our 500 is having the same problem. Display won’t work, radio, steering wheel controls all work, can’t get it to display no matter what we try. Then go back to the car after a while and everything is fine. Never switches off whilst driving, never switches back on during driving if it failed! Fails about twice a week on average.

Very annoying.

Never got a complete solution.

Fiat upgraded the software to the latest version when it originally started. That helped for a bit. I then upgraded the maps a couple of times and that helps. Not such a big problem now, but still happening every now and then but thankfully not on long journeys!
