Hi All

My girlfriend is a proud owner of a Fiat 500C 2009 1.4 but after a week of ownership, the engine light came on, so I plugged in my faithful Multiecuscan software and the error code P1171 - Mixture 1 strength (additive). I have attached the screen shot of the error code which gives more details. I have replaced the pre cat lambda sensor but after a day, the error re appeared. I have replaced the sensor again thinking that it may be faulty, but the error code re appeared again after about 2 hours.

Has anyone else ever had this error code and what did you do to fix it?

Any help or advise very much appreciated.

Cheers

not a common one certainly, :(

this may help though..

I notice the fault has got 65008 mins logged.??

Assuming not misfiring and causing excess air in exhaust. First thing I'd check for is split breather hoses and other sources of air leak + check for leaks in exhaust.

They do have a tendency to split the breather hose which is located under the air filter so definitley worth looking at that. Have changed quite a few and that will throw up that code

Hi

I noticed a number of the coil packs have very small hair line cracks on the plastic housing where the previous guys possibly over tightened them. The car doesn't seem to me miss firing but could this throw up the error code? The car seems to run fine even with this code activated. Intermittent faults are the worse to pin point. Thanks so far for the replies !

I have ordered a new breather pipe, just in case when I check the one in the car is split. I suspect an air leak personally but I will have to buy a cigar and blow the smoke via the air intake and monitor any leaks. I can't think it could be anything else since the error code is not specific to one sensor.

Wow, so this fault has been triggered frequently over the last 3 years, is this correct? So I wonder why the dealership didn't sort it out every time it went in?

Any ideas on what it can be? I will check the breather pipe and replace it over the weekend. The pre cat lambda sensor has already been replaced.

Cheers

out of interest,
what version / year is you MES - just wondering if it's older than the 500..??

I don't know for sure if that's what the counter indicates - but I'd not be too surprised either..

Hi all. Replaced the lambda sensor and breather hose and after about 2 days the fault came back. Any other areas I should look at? Could a faulty engine temp sensor could be the issue?

Thanks

Hi

Does anyone know how to reset the parameters so that the new Lambda sensors etc are set back to factory settings via the Multiecuscan tool?

I have been told by a mechanic that the fault I am experiencing could be a small air leak around the manifold/exhaust or connector/wiring issue to the ECU. It only happens after hard acceleration/motorway speeds after a day or so after the fault light has been reset. He also said the ECU may need re-flashing at the dealer?

Cheers

it's termed a phonic wheel relearn,;)
basically gets all of the cars kit talking to each other again

yes burrowsdeano did say that, :)

I thought you'd replaced the only part that was showing sign of leaking..

Hi Guys

I have replaced the spark plugs, all coil packs, MAP sensor, pre cat Oxygen sensor and the faulty code has returned. I am not sure if its a fuel pressure issue or possibly a faulty injector or a faulty new spark plug or a vacuum leak. I reset all the parameters inc the fault code and two days later the fault returned again. Below is the fault code screen shot and a link to the actual Fuel trim and other readings readings etc. The first 5 secs are at idle and the rest at 2500 rpm. Please take a look and feedback any helpful advise - much appreciated. I may have to bite the bullet and take it to the main dealer.
