Hi,

I've just got a low mileage, well looked after Twinair Plus.

I'm very happy indeed with it.

I haven't put it through its paces yet, but I've not really noticed much difference between Eco, and full power.

The eco indicator lights, so the switch is working.

If I switched eco off, at a steady speed, would the revs rise?

Also, should I be able to hear the turbo kick in? (I can't but I think it's on the other side of the engine)

Cheers.

You won't hear the turbo!! You should notice a definite increase in torque and general performance when you switch off eco or vice versa, the revs won't change at a steady speed

My last car was a Cinq, so even on eco it seems to fly.

I don't have to wind it up to get anywhere, or plan a mile in advance.

Brilliant.

The ECO button switches between engine maps, IIRC the values are as follows:
ECO: 57 kW / 100 Nm
NORMAL: 63 kW / 145 Nm

So going from ECO to NORMAL means +45% torque, which is a very noticeable difference.

I usually stay in ECO mode, as it's quite enough for city driving and the engine seems to run a bit more smoothly on low revs than NORMAL mode. It's also fun to have a button on the dash that gives more power.

Regarding hearing the turbo, if I floor it on NORMAL mode at low highway speeds, I can hear a very distinct "whoosh" about half-a-second later. No idea whether that's turbo intake noise though or something else.
I have also, on occasion, heard the "wastegate noise" or whatever when accelerating fast and changing gear...I do have pretty good hearing, though.

As mentioned above, you should clearly notice the +45% torque. Furthermore the steering is much lighter with eco on.

P.S. Regarding your forum name, don't you think the Twinair Plus is a winner's car?

If you drive at a steady speed, say 50mph, along a flat road with ECO off, then switch it on, you should find that you have to depress the accellerator slightly more to maintain the same speed.

Based on my experience on a Panda TA, if the 6kw difference with eco button on is true (8bhp) am shocked. Feels like I am driving a TA 65 which may never have been sold here. As I have the 4x4, surely worse still. Could be useful with snow and letting engine warm through when minus a lot. But if I didn't know I'd pressed it, it'd be booked in to be looked at. My first Panda did 60 in 16 secs. Eco button on my TA turns it into an absolute slug. Accelerate at 50mph in 5th, almost nothing happens. Turn it off and car goes like a stabbed rat. Which would you have?!

It feels a lot more noticeable on the 105:cool:

" Accelerate at 50mph in 5th, almost nothing happens. Turn it off and car goes like a stabbed rat. Which would you have?! " When I took one out for a test drive, that was the selling point. I was told to accelerate to 50 from 30, with the button pressed in. Then he took the Eco off and said now accelerate.... A stabbed rat just about sums it up. :) Needless to say I brought a Colour Therapy twin Air 0.9...it gets better by the week.. :)

My last car was a 93 Cinq.
23 Years old when I had it put down, and mine for 12 of those.
That was my loser's car.
It embarrassed my nearest and dearest :)

I don't know if I can change my username.

Eco performance improves considerably with mileage, at 26k mine is very usable & refined
The eco mode performance of my previous 500 with a TA85 Euro 5 was hardly acceptable. In the city I could keep up with other traffic if I floored the pedel constantly, but taking the acceleration lane of a motorway in eco mode was truely dangerous. The eco mode performance of my current 500 with TA80 Euro 6 is even worse.

At what mileage though? Mine was useless too when newish

My 2011 seems surprisingly fast in eco, which is partly why I wonder if it's working.

My last motor was a slug of a Cinq, so I haven't got much to compare it with.

At what mileage though?
My 2011 TA85 Euro 5 was at 37,500 miles when I replaced it. My 2014 TA80 Euro 6 is at 24,000 miles now. (The TA80 is a low CO2 version for certain markets.)

It's been mentioned, but the steering is the No1 thing that you should notice right off the bat. On Eco it's super light in comparison to when it's off.

When you switch eco off you will only feel extra acceleration when you put foot down.
I have twin air with different problem, eco button when turned off (it should take off like a scolded cat) simply cruises on with no difference to acceleration.Turbo has been reconditioned so ?. Any clever mechanics out there to help?
