Other 500C owners might already know this but it’s new to me and I haven’t seen a reference to it before.

I suddenly found on Tuesday evening that I couldn't open the boot; nothing from the handle or the key fob. I assumed, naturally, it would be the wiring because the link to the body is quite tight when the boot's open and the sleeving has split. I booked it into FIAT; at only three months out of warranty I felt it should be their responsibility. Odd thing was, it did open occasionally during my many tries, which I put down to a fractured wire intermittently making contact.

BUT, today I also discovered the soft-top buttons needed to be held down to open/close the roof; no automatic operation - curious coincidence? When I got home I ran an initialization of the roof and it resumed normal operation - I recall I’d jammed it on Tuesday morning when I inadvertently opened it with the roof bars on, obviously upsetting the computer.

However, lo and behold, the boot-lid also started to work normally.

There is a link of course; when the roof is fully open, and stacked above the boot, pressing the boot release causes the roof to close to the 'spoiler' position before the boot catch releases. That doesn't explain why it would open once in a while though... Anyhow, I’m glad I found that before embarrassing myself at FIAT!
