Hi!

Just a quick question, has anyone had any experience with tropicalia yellow? If so, how does the colour hold up over time? (Such as colour fade as the one I'm looking into getting has decals. Of course I understand that there will be some fade due to this.) I'm looking into getting an early re-issue of the 500 and was wondering if anyone could assist.

Best wishes!

B :)

My opinion of any yellow car is that it will fade faster than most other colours, early Fiats in this colour seem to suffer as does VW and Vaxhaul in either red or yellow.
A quick look when you open the door should show up fading, if you intend to remove the decals, buy another car without them.
If you take a black and white photo the grey scaling will clearly show any respray job or fading when compared to the paint with the door open, regardless of how good a paint job.

I have a yellow 500 from 2008 and it doesn't appear to have suffered at all. It spent a year facing the sun only on one side of the car. The headlight has gone a little "fogged" up but the paint is perfectly fine. I can't speak for decals as my car doesn't have any.

Modern clear coat means the clear coat will peel before there's any noticeable change in colour. I drive past a red early 500 sometimes, the only fade is on a panel that's been resprayed and apparently not clear coated. In the UK? I wouldn't worry about it.

A trick from the old days is to park forwards one week and reverse in the next, to keep fading even on both sides/ front rear of the vehicle.
