Yes I've not had a panda and 500 heater box side by side but I'm pretty sure they are basically the same

I posted this picture in the thread about wiper stalk, but it's relevant here. This is the beam that has to come off. You can clearly see it here.

Ok just to clarify I have done a number of these for this problem, worked in a dealer for nearly 20 years and I'm now out on my own as a specialist. The doors have to come off so that you are able to remove the the mounting bracket that the heater box bolts to. No other way believe me I would have done it. Yes the air con needs to be drained. It is a big job but I get these done in 1 day no problem. If your anywhere near hampshire I could price the job for you? May save you a lot of hassle
That's an interesting offer! I am west midlands.

Bearing in mind that when I get to the broken part I am going to try and botch the broken stub back on the flap door with glue and strengthening wire and what have you. Can you do this as you near the heater box, ie does the access get any better so you can do it in situ, or do you still have to get the box out and work on a bench?

I'll have a long chat with the son-in-law-to-be. He's a fork truck mech' so he'll be doing all the dirty work, i'll be reading the manual to him!!!

For the one on the 500 that snaps just removing the dash doesn't give any better access, you have to remove the supporting beam that holds it in place. Also unless you can get it back in the perfect position and manage to create something really strong to hold it I would either fit a new flap or a complete new box. I can normally get a good second hand box for much less than just the flap from fiat. About £150 should get you a good second hand one. And another thing is if you can avoid going to max hot or cold that stops the motor reaching its stops which is what causes them to snap in the first place. I know that's not ideal but it does prolong the life of that part

Hi I'm back sorry to be a pain. I'm trying to source a new heater box. Any tips
I've just spoken to a dealer apparently there are options for no aircon, aircon and automatic air con. I have got EK08GLJ a FIAT 500 LOUNGE 1242cc PETROL, 3 Door HATCHBACK which has automatic air con.

There are two boxes I can find on ebay atm. How can I find out which one I need

you say there are 3 x options;
NO aircon - just a heater

manual aircon - with a press-in button to aid the heater.

Climate control - you call for a specific displayed temperature in 'Celcius

sounds as if your car is Climate control,
as is the Ebay listing
