When I manually override the automatic climate control in my 2015 Twinair and just set the fan to a medium setting (I hate noise), that setting isn’t retained after the next start – the fan always sets back to zero. Is this the normal behaviour? Because the manual doesn’t mention this.

It's normal on ACC, I typically run mine with the compressor off and vent selected to screen, with compressor off the fan and temp will still behave automatically and alternate as per selected temp, so when you switch on it will stay off until engine heats up and then will rise / fall according to set temp

Yes, mine does the same but sometimes it does retain the setting. I haven't figured out what's different about those occasions.

I find it difficult to understand why anyone would want the ACC not set to Auto.

That's what it's for, and that's the way it works best.
Set the temp to what you want, and providing it's reasonable, the fan settles down quite quickly.

At this moment, we're on holiday in Marseille. 34degC out there and with fiercly bright sunshine. No doubt the 500 drivers will have a tough time of it trying to keep cool because the 500 ACC is a bit weak in hot sunshine, so no doubt their fans are quite loud ............. or they turn it off and open the windows, and it's the traffic that'll be loud!

Home back in Cornwall in the next few days, and we'll be in our 500TA set to Auto as usual. I never even consider setting it to anything other than Auto as it's a super little system.

Greetings from sunny South of France,
Mick.

Mick as per below the Auto functions in terms of fan speed and temp still work with Auto off or Auto and Compressor off, I choose not to have the compressor working all the time (lets not start that discussion again!!) In Auto mode the system decides which vents to use - typically the floor vents if its cold or the main front vent if its hot or a mix of both depending and screen vent in demist mode. I prefer to have it manually on screen mode and compressor off and temp typically set to 21c mostly hence I turn 'Auto' off. Each to their own obviously and the system caters for all preferences. Enjoy France!:)

I concur with most of that.

Also, it seems to me the auto system tries too hard to reach the desired temperature as quickly as possible, resulting in a lot of fan noise, especially when trying to bring the temp down on a hot day. I'd just as soon use the system manually to get the temp down at a slower rate and them switch to auto once I'm comfortable. But, as you say, to each his own...

Home now. :)
Excellent time in Marseille, and the Eurostar and TGV trains we took from London to Marseille were fantastic.

It cost £59 per person London St Pancras to Marseille St Charles, and £59 per person return. Cheap, or what?

180mph in smooth air-conditioned comfort. (y)
Try that in a Fiat 500.

Regards to all,
Mick.

Probably because Fiat in their wisdom decided that Auto would disengage if you want recycled air, which makes the whole system pointless.

We don't have ac in the Fiat but do in our Mazda the climate control generally works fine but I do find once it's reached the set temp there is a lack of air flow particularly when asking it to cool the car so I just crank the fan up everything else stays auto .

When sitting in your FIAT 500, you can simply open a window or two. Try that in the Eurostar...

In 1997 I traveled from London to Brussels by Eurostar. It was a hot summerday. Somewhere in the North of France an electrical problem occured. The train stopped and didn't move for hours. Air conditioning was no longer working. It got really, really hot in the train and there was no possibility to open a window. Therefore, don't compare the Eurostar with a FIAT 500!

Making the most of your life means taking advantage of the opportunities which are available to you at the time.

What worked well for your grandfather in 1936 may not necessarily work well for you today.

Ladykitching reminded me of this very point only yesterday. ;)

Stumbled upon it by chance. When I turn the key immediately to start the motor, the setting is not retained. However, when I first turn the key to the accessory position and wait a few seconds, the last AC setting is retained after starting the motor.
