There is a school of thought that suggests the 105 is better car then the Abarth in terms of ownership, what is your experience having owned both?

The Abarth feels much better overall ,brakes ,Suspension ,strangely more comfortable !! i had a slight issue with the 105 on cold starts ,but thats not to say the 500 was a bad car ,the 105 twin air is a great engine ,the Abarth is mental having 180 horses from a 1.4 engine, fuel wise ,the twin air 105 averaged around 44 mpg the Abarth around 37mpg so not much in it there .(y)

Yeah will be interesting to compare, we have and A500 and I have a 85twin and wanted something closer to the Abarth. They have a new S in the showroom so i will pop in and see hat I have ordered!(y)

I've just picked up a 2014 Twin air S (105) from the 500 Centre at Parkgate.
Actually, my wife picked it up as someone broke their wrist on holiday(n)
Goes like stink, even from the passenger seat.

Good luck with your purchase(y)

Caz - we have recently bought a new 500 Lounge 105 and the difference between normal (90 bhp) and sport mode (105 bhp) is very obvious. You'll be delighted with the extra boost. Mine sometimes amazes me, when I'm in 2nd gear and the turbo comes on at about 3000 revs it suddenly takes off like the clappers! Doesn't do much for the mpg but you can't have it both ways....

I'm getting constant messages from Perry's to upgrade my 63 plate 85 TA 500S to a newer 105, but I'm torn. You can get an Abarth 500 for not much more and there are 3 in my old workplace car park I had to walk past every day, which made me want one even more. One thing I did notice on my 105 test drive was the breaks. After just having front disks it seemed slowing down happens rather abruptly until you got used to it!

Also, my very recent (as in last week) change in my job now means I don't have to drive 20 miles to work and back a day and can walk it in 8 mins... Is there even a point to getting an upgrade when my annual mileage is going to be less than 3000 :/

I think you've answered your own question there!:D

I thought so as well, but there is a move out of the city on the cards next year (ironically to an area where I used to work) so I could be right back to needing one!

Good luck! Mine took over 6 weeks to get to me once it had been built, but it could have been dealer error as I suspect they assumed that I wanted it for a September 1st registration so that slowed things down.

If I have our 85TA in ECO for a while, then switch it off, it takes off like the clappers just like your's does! :)

If the 105TA has 90bhp in Normal, and 105bhp in Sport, could it be that the 85TA has 70bhp in ECO, and 85bhp in Normal?

I wonder if the 85TA with its ECO button does the same thing as a 105TA (but in reverse)?

Thanks,
Mick.

Yes Mick, I would guess the ECO button is just the Sport button in reverse. On holiday we found ourselves in slow moving traffic heading up a fairly steep hill, never a good situation for a small engine. I was driving in 'non-sport' mode and found myself with falling revs and ended up in second with the engine struggling. I didn't want to go down to first gear, so I reached out and selected sport mode. Straight away the engine woke up and away we went.
I've given up rsing about with the button now, I just leave the car in Sport mode. MPG is still pretty good.
