Hi Folks
Just found out that my 2010 500 bought at 30000 miles last november with a fully stamped up dealer service history hasnt had the timing belt changed on either the 4 year service or the 5 year service.
I suppose i can only blame the previous owner, as I would guess the dealer (2 different ones) would have at least offered to change the belt on both of these services.
Result is I now have to do it. Its still only done 32000 but is now almost 6 years old so I know I'm skating on thin ice
Before i buy the locking tool kit (£90) plus an OE belt water pump & tensioner (£90) does anyone know a garage near to tamworth who will do it for me at a fair price.
I have no issue doing it myself, just trying to save the bother really
Thanks for looking

Your car will undoubtedly have been one of those low mileage vehicles whereby the previous owner was probably 'advised' to have the cambelt and waterpump changed, but chose not to spend the money. I know, I've been one of those customers whereby I knew the cambelt/waterpump needed to be changed at a certain mileage or year period, but because at the time, I owned a Mazda MX5 1.8, it had 20k less miles on it than the 'recommended' change interval, but had reached the 5 year change point. The car was only ever serviced by Mazda and they, to their credit, did try to pursuade me but I took the risk and left it and then PX'd it for a 500, so you can see how it happens.

Concerning your situation, well if you are competent, personally, I'd do the job myself, but make sure that you do change out the water pump at the same time. Judging from your post, you know this needs doing anyway. You'll obviously need to do a complete coolant change at the same time.

If you really don't want to do it yourself, consider using the services of a mobile mechanic. I used one recently to do a job on my Saab and the guy did an excellent job, but as always, make sure you do your research. Clearly, mobile technicians don't have the same overheads as garages, you still get a proper invoice and guarantee and if they're decent, like the guy I used, they carry mobile card machines, so you can pay by credit card for any work (highly recommended for all jobs over £100) so you get protection under the CCA should things turn sour.
