Just to put the record straight, as I may have got my knickers in a twist.

Bought the 500TA (we call her Rosa) 30 October 2014 at 13,786miles.
She was a month after her third birthday.

As of yesterday 20 December 2016, she has done 25,509miles.
That's 11,723miles in 2yrs 2m.
By my rudimentary arithmetic, that's 451.88miles per month = 5,410miles per year since we've owned her.

Think ours is 7k a year due to us having another car which is about the same mileage a year, tend to use the Mazda for family/ long distance use mostly.

Makes a bit more sense. Still marginal value.

My 2011 Twinair, bought new in April 2011, now has nearly 96k on it. circa 17K a year

Sell car, get bus. Even a taxi would be cheaper.

Get bus?
Great, if you live on a bus route or even a bus route that goes in a variety of ways.

I drive the Community Bus regularly because the busses that run aren't where people live, plus the hills are mega-steep.

Taxi?
Somehow I doubt that a taxi for two or three times a week covering 5,400miles a year would cost less than running and insuring a 500TA with zero VED. I reckon - at a guess - that it would be double the cost per mile than funding a car for a year.

You try finding a taxi round here. (n)
There are two firms locally, and you need to book well in advance.
We don't all live in the city and can get a taxi easily.

No, running a car is the cheaper option.

Best wishes for the season,
Mick.

I live in the middle of the Lake District. If we walk two miles to the bus stop we get regular buses, March to October.

I do 17K plus a year because of the remote location.

As long as you are happy to spend on Insurance, Maintenance, Depreciation etc, then thats up to you.

I think you would be horrified by the amount per mile you spend.

Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas to you too! :)

I have total expenditure since we've owned the car.

Cost £8,445.00 30th Oct 2014 mileage 13,850
Fuel spent £1,421.95p
Insurance £415.00
Maintenance, fair wear and tear plus defects etc £641.88
Mileage up to last refill 25509

Miles done 11,659miles
Total costs not counting purchase £2,478.83
Costs per mile 21.2P per mile.

As for depreciation, let's say the car is worth zero now.
That makes the total costs as £10,923.83
Costs per mile 93.7p per mile.

Not horrified in the slightest.
Seems good value to me.

Merry Christmas!
Mick.
