Hi, I've just installed a dab/fm aerial to my car. It is amplified and therefore has a red wire to supply the 12v to the aerial.

The only thing is I'm not sure where to connect it to. Can anyone help.

Thank you

I assume you have installed a new head unit with DAB too? If so there is probably a blue wire labelled ANT (antenna) that sends out a 12V feed when the radio is powered on.

Hi, no I've kept the original head unit but added a autodab box. That has its own wiring harness and let's me still keep the use of the steering wheel controls.

EDIT

Looking on the web it suggests that on the back of your head unit there are three blocks (top C ,middle B and bottom A).

The bottom one (A) is the block connecting the power. Pin 4 is the ignition feed via a yellow cable which you could use to power your active aerial. Interesting it also suggests that on pin 5 (blue) had a 12v output, which I think goes to the existing aerial amplifier/ subwoofer if fitted to turn that on too - so probably be best connecting to this terminal if fitted.

You should be splicing into the cable and using some heat shrink over the joint. How are your soldering skills?

Should I be using adding something to the end of the wire to make sure it stays in the pin?

If there is already a plug in the socket the wire maybe there and jus use splice in your wire, problem comes if the connector plug is there but has no wire, it is possible to carefully solder a suitable wire directly to the pin and pass it through the relevant hole in the plug in order that it won't foul anything but requires some skill and care putting the plug back in.

I've had a look at the harness today. There is a hole with no wire, is this the one I need. If not is it the blue one? Also silly question but I assume I should disconnect the batter?

It's the home on the bottom left.

If you have a voltmeter it should read 12v once the ignition is turned on. If you do have an output terminal, then it should read 12v when you turn on the radio.

I have a different pin out picture, not saying yours is wrong, but does the head unit have a pin out picture printed on it and can you post it? Just to double check?

Thanks john202020, in the end I found a 12v pin on the dab box. Sadly though it has made little difference to the digital reception!
