Just over a year now. Loving it. I down sized to it but am loving the benefits. I average between 55 and 65 mpg depending on the week and customisations don't have to cost a fortune either.

I was surprised with a certain lack of affinity between 500 drivers out on the road. A nod, point or wave to another 500 driver seems to be met with a confused look. Or maybe its because of me.

I Had an Astra before my first 500, and apart from a couple cars, always had bigger ones too, but same as you love the benefits of the small 500! the parking, the nipping around idiots lol I find it quite more spacious once inside than it looks on the outside, also the running costs are great.
whats your fave mod on yours?
funny you say about he affinity between 500 drivers, ive noticed that too!
when im in my cortina, when ever you see another classic car you will get a wave, flash, beep, a nod or a thumbs up, yet like you say you look at another 500 driver and if they look back their expression is more of what you looking at lol

It's really easy and you have the natural lines of the car to line them up to. They are very forgiving and allow you to really move them around a lot. I buy them for £19 on eBay.

so even if self adesive just soake them and once they dry off they stay stuck no probs?
get what you mean about the natural lines, coz for the door cill guards its obvious where they go and you just line them up.

Get a spray bottle with water and the tinyiest bit of washing liquid. Spray the car panel and the back of the vinyl. Position the sticker then use a soft piece of card, a cloth or a credit card in a sock to push out the air bubbles and water.

The carbon vinyl I used could be heated with a hair dryer to help soften it and made positioning it that bit easier.

The diesel tune box and lowering springs have made a vast improvement in the driveability. The car will never win any land speed records, but then we 500 owners already know that. It now has a bit more get up and go and it holds the corners better.

My fav diy mod is the mesh grill and 'gti' red stripe. All in all they cost less than £30 and only took an hour or so to do. The red stripe is one of those door edge protectors from eBay. There's a slight gap between the front bumper and lower front bumper that accepts the strip perfectly. Just cut to size and push it home.

Another useful mod I did was add another power socket in the passenger foot well. I use my nexus 7 for my music, satnav and work emails. My radio doesn't have an aux port so I had to 'tap in' to the wiring on the back of the radio. To activate my 'aux' I have to have a silent mp3 track playing on loop via the USB. It all works well tho.

Yes, it's very sticky which means if you dont get it right first time without wetting it looks awful. It dries off perfectly stuck bubble free.

She's a beauty. Love the interior! Excellent colour choice. Nice that the car has a memento of him in it as well. (only two months late, good job me)

Here's my new roof btw!

Lol No worries mate, i often forget about forums, then re discover them, and ive forgotton my passwords or usernames!
I Love the roof mate! thats really COOL!!! and suits the car!
an unrelated question mate
daylight running lights!! poxy things, i keep getting the message check DRL
they have been on fine, then one day i noticed one was off, but then came on! so obv a lose conection, this weekend get the same message! and this time the bulb was off for the whole journey and also had the warning light on, im guessing telling me bulbs out, its on again atm, but I cant for the life of me get to the bulb!
i can barely fit my hands/fingers in there! i even bought a spanner that fits the back of the bulb aparently , someone on this forum told me about it, and i still cant see what im doing , who on earth decided to put the acsess panel there! ive turned the wheel inwards which gives alot more room, but i just cant see what im doing! i only want to take the bulb out and put it back hopefully with a more secure connection!
u ever had issues with bulbs what did you do? wheel off? or should i just tell the dealer as only had car 3 months,
any more mods your planning on?

I rely on the little [1] box in the corner, if it doesn't change, I don't look! :p
Haha cheers - only thing is it shows the dents in my roof. ugh!

Haha I cheated and just turned the DRLS off. It's probably a lose connection, they're a pain. I jacked the car up and took the wheel off to do it (I know people on here say you can do it without...) I turn them off mainly for MOT purposes to get rid of that infernal error. :D Just go gently, check it's going in square and properly and take your time. They're an absolute bugger!

Yeah, I'm looking at lowering it (when the insurers will let me!), getting some properly done window tints and a less scatty exhaust.
Since then I've also wrapped the DRL bulbs with yellow film. Looks really smart and retro I think!
