I have also looked at the double din converter but decided not to after the horrendous price of it.

The one without vents looks **** but £140 for a piece of plastic is madness!!

Seagull on here had one that was pretty boss. But I think he paid a fair amount. I wanted double din too, but I'd read that even with that double facia fitting kit it was a nightmare and meant cutting/filing.

The one that he used is the one in question. I remember seeing that he did a fair amount of prep to make it look more OEM due to the high gloss finish they ship with.

Yeah I actually discussed it with him via PM too. This is the basics of what he said;
Hi, the finish was crap so had to fill in some low spots and flatten out all the vanes (!) then respray in plasticote Matt finish to match the rest of the car.
Don't forget you have to cut the air vents which was a 2 hour job itself....

So it's a pretty exhaustive bit of work by the sounds of things.

Years ago Alpine did a hide away unit all you had was a display unit that went in/on the dash not sure if such an item still exists but given the trend to mechless head units I can't see why you need a bulky "in dash" part all we need is to see what's going on?

Yeah, I'm coming round to the idea of a slide in and out screen one as long as it works with steering controls

I use a 7 inch tablet on a CD tray mount with a cable into the aux. The tablet is teathered to my phone. I then load up Spotify. I get my work emails on it. I use igo for my satnav. I Bluetooth my phone to the blue&me and stick it in the doorcard. The tablet gets power from an extra USB socket down in the passenger footwell and tapped into the CIG lighter wiring.

A tablet is fine, but you still have to put it away when you park.....

Can't help but notice that the new Abarth has kind of copied what I've done!
