General TA to 1.2 engine?

General TA to 1.2 engine?

I ended up driving over to my dad's house (25-ish mile round trip). A mix of town 30 and 40, main duel carriageway A road (which includes an incline) plus winding country lanes; a route that I know very well.

A perfect route for a test drive (y). Familiarity is a great asset.

As you found, the 1.2 works well if you let it go at its own speed, not so well if you try to push it like your old TA. The 1.2 is a great ecocar and is well suited to, shall we say, a more leisurely style of driving, but if you floor it, you'll just use a lot more fuel to go not a lot faster.

You've made the decision that's right for you, and, most importantly, you know it's right.

You've found the car; now you have to find the best deal you can.

Do come back and let us know how you get on.

Aye, pretty much what I thought. But as I said, can't help thinking a change might be nice as there are so many Volares on the road these days

Glad you're set on the TwinAir. I did think as good as the 1.2 is for a steady drive, the TA has more than the edge when it comes to pace. Fuel economy won't be that different on the open road either, given that the TA doesn't need thrashing to keep up with faster traffic like the 1.2 can.

I would go with Coral. You probably had one of the first Volare Blue cars out there when you got yours, but now it's one of the more popular/common colour 500s on the roads. The Coral is all new for the 2015 model, so stands out. It's been an unfortunate circumstance which has brought you to needing a new car - might as well go the whole hog! :)

One final (possibly stupid?) question: does the eco button still exist on the TA 85bph model? I've seen mention of a sport button replacing it on some of the posts about the restyled cars) but from some of the photos I've looked through on Autotrader some cars (16 reg) have the Eco button and others have a sport button. I just want to be clear in my mind about what to expect :)

I think the 85 has the Eco button and the 105 has sport

That makes sense then. I quite like the Eco mode, but I think I'm in the minority on here ;)

I drive my 85 in Eco mode most of the time - saves a little fuel (maybe), lighter steering and knowing I just have to press a button for extra boost. If they hadn't tied the lighter steering to Eco I'd probably not use it so much however.

I have the sport button on my 2016 TA 105.

When you select it the acceleration becomes noticeably nippier and the steering gets heavier (like turning off 'City' mode on my old 1.2).

Also three white Adidas stripes appear on the outside and the radio switches to Talksport. (I made these last two up...)

I had a 300 mile round trip yesterday in my wife's 500 (1.2 Colour Therapy).

Gave it a full tank of V-Power unleaded; when I got home yesterday the trip read 51.4mpg indicated. That was on a mix of motorways and A and B roads, and I was really impressed with how much poke it had when I needed it! A pleasant surprise.
