Well guys the time finally came where I managed to drive fuel efficiently over the course of a week mostly around the city on one tank of fuel. 6.7l/100 km and over 600 kilometres on a 41 liter tank of fuel! That should be my record on the 1.4 and I don't think I can beat it over a whole tank in mixed driving conditions. Not in one go in 5th gear at 30 mph!

If anyone with the same engine beats it let me know!

My fuel consumption with my first 500 Sport (2010 1.4 Dualogic) matched yours - it was always 7.0L/100km and very difficult to get below that.

My current 500 (2008 Lounge 1.4 Dualogic) has consistently returned 6.3L/100km on average, town and country. I suppose it's only a 10% difference but just goes to show the variation between cars of apparently the same specifications.

...to prove it needs a second photo ;)
(I can only upload one photo per post)

Just to be clear, that's not 995.3km on a single tank, but it proves that 6.3L/100km is for standard mixed driving over 995.3km (not some single careful trip).

wow pretty good! problem is I drive in town everyday. if i drove out of town i think 6.0 is reachable, which i consider the lowest possible in town = )

My average is around 7.5l/100 km with 100% in town driving. Fair enough I suppose, with the 195 tires I was doing around 8.3 and in the summer 9.0 with ac on full blast = )

Unfortunately I don't have any long term results to share as the messing with my instrument cluster has reset the data every time.

Normally on the town driving I get about 30mpg from my car which I think is terrible for a 1.4 litre engine.

yeah i think its due to the fact that you have to rev it to move anywhere = )

I may or may not redline it sometimes :whistles:

I find if you accelerate hard it doesn't make too much difference to the mpg if accelerating normally.
in first gear fuel cutoff is around 6,750 rpm for some reason. i think in the 4th to 3rd gear downshift i managed 7,250 RPM. That must be the highest fuel cutoff point = )

I'm pretty sure I got into the 7k realm in 2nd gear. The car does seem really slow though, I like the car I just really want an abarth now.

well it is quicker than both the 1.2 and the TA 85 = ) you just need to keep it above 4,000 rpm at all times = )
To be honest I am enjoying my time with it, the days of NA engines are more and more limited. Practically every car bigger than the Fiat 500 has Turbo engines now.

The only thing that really sucks about the 1.4 is the horrendous turning circle. Our BMW X5 puts it to shame.
yes thank god i got my licence in the UK and had ample time to practice my three point turns = ) it does get quite hairy when you have to do illegal u-turns though, i try and avoid them to be honest !

I'm assuming the abarth doesn't have the same issue seeing as it's a 5 speed. I'm yet to test drive one!

no sorry nothing to do with the gearbox as my dualogic is 5 speed. i checked, it is 10.8 m just like the normal 1.4 is the abarth. sorry = (

Best economy reading for my 1.4 Sport has been 41.2 mpg, so Ahmett beats me! I've never had a reading lower than 38.5 mpg. I definitely noted an improvement in economy when I changed the Fiat-specified copper plugs for the Denso IXU22 iridiums.

The old-school 1.4 16v isn't for everyone but I love it's character - so willing to be revved. You need to keep busy with the gearbox and get it above 4000 rpm to keep it cracking along at a decent pace. In my experience it's a very reliable unit and I've had no problems at all. Yes, the turning circle is hilarious for such a small car, I think it's due to the position and orientation of the 6-speed gear box relative to the front axle.

yes they seem bulletproof! the strongest part of the car for sure. i do not see this engine having any problems as long as you have coolant, oil and decent spark plugs in it!

for me my eco tires made a huge difference to the fuel economy vs the old ones, a good 10% increase in efficiency due to less drag. My current tires have an EU C for fuel efficiency vs. F in my old tires.

Lol, that's really good!
I can get about 1-16.5 maybe 18 KM per liter but only when driving on nonSport mode (and get lots of horning in the background for being slow as sh**), when i turn it on the fuel usage gets higher like the Abarth hah.
I mostly drive in the city, so i get about 1-14 but i like to rev the car alot so i get most of the time 1-12.5

Outside the city and on highways i can get 1-20km per liter

BTW Ahmett how's the Dualogic since the replacement? did you checked it for leaking at the dealership?
Mine has a weak battery so it sometimes causes for slower movment from the robot
