My wife's new Fiat 500L came without the DLR's turned on after reading the manual I can't find the option on the menu - in fact a number of the options in the manual are missing. The dealer is stumped and promises "to get back to me". Its the new style dash with the touch screen radio.

I am beginning to suspect they aren't fitted or are faulty.

Thats exactly what I am doing - but it goes from Disable Passenger Airbag to Exit menu - no option for the DLR at all - cycled through it multiple times. the dealer did the same - couldn't find it.

Some options can be deleted, I had my car serviced and saw they hadn't reset the service counter so I took it back and they ended up deleting it completely! I'm sure the dealer can get it back up for you.

Illegal? Just on a 500L?

Spike

On the regular 500 (pre 2015 facelift) it's not illegal to deactivate them because the car was approved in 2007/2008 although I believe later models had the option removed. The 500L was approved in 2012, after the EU laws came into force and is therefore legally required to have DRLs that work.

The menu option to switch them off is still there on my wife's 2014 500 TwinAir & on my 2014 595 Turismo, but I don't know about the LED DRLs on the facelift 500.

The option to switch DRL's off is still present in our Oct 2015 prefacelift 500S, I was considering turning off/on when BST comes/goes.

My current pet hate is people driving with their drl's, the dash lights up with the key and don't even realise they have no rear lights on at all in the pitch dark - curse of the modern car?
I would always leave drl's on it maybe an insurance issue to turn them off?

My 2013 punto's DRL's are "stand - alone" no dash illumination, :)

not an issue as you can only see dials in bright sunshine ( built for the Med. obviously..):D

It's swings and roundabouts really... On the other hand those drivers who insist on driving through fog with no lights at all now have some sort of lighting.(y)

The main problem with the terminology ................ as far as I can make out ................ is the D.

The D bit of DRL is a US word. DAYTIME as in all one word.
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS.

Here in UK, many people don't use the noun "daytime"in that way, but use DAY-LIGHT as the adjective, therefore the R and the L get mixed up. It makes more sense to many of us that the description for the lights should be DLR lights .......... as in DAY-LIGHT RUNNING lights.

In my experience, this is what people say, and this is how people describe them.

We have head-lights, indicator lights, side lights, interior lights. All are lights. We always put the word "lights" on the end.
Therefore, what's wrong with day-light running lights?

Hope that helps,
Mick.
