Hello, i am watching some YouTube videos and some reviewers say that the fiat 500 comes with stability control as standard. Is that only in the US?

As to what may be standard in a particular market or year I cannot say except that our two AU market cars have the whole alphabet. You may find the link below useful in explaining the various acronyms however;

http://www.carpages.co.uk/fiat/fiat-500-safety-19-01-08.asp

Here's a brief rundown I've assembled from various sources - it may not be comprehensive;

ABS: Anti-lock Brake System - stops wheels locking under heavy breaking
EBD: Electronic Brake Distribution - distributes breaking pressure evenly to all four wheels
HBA: Hydraulic Brake Assistance - applies maximum braking under emergency situations
ASR: Anti Slip Regulation - stops wheel from spinning on loose surfaces such as taking off on wet roads.
ESC: Electronic Stability Control (or Programme) - keeps vehicle stable and free from over and under steer when cornering hard.
MSR: Motor Schleppmoment Regelung, (engine drag torque control) - cuts engine torque being transferred to driven wheels when you change down gears mostly on wet surfaces
EVA: Emergency Valve Assistance - same as HBA but for vehicles without ESP.
Hill-Holder - part of ESC system.

Thank you. In some cars next to the gear stick they have a button ASR OFF and is some other they have ESC Off. The buttons are in the same location.

I just want to know if the 500s in the uk come with A stability control system (esc, esp or whatever) as standard or not.

What about the 2012 model?

no only the 1.4 came with it as standard. on ta, diesel and 1.2 all a paid option.

I think it became standard in 2014 due to EU laws, not because of Fiat generosity or anything = )

Thank you!

I cant understand how essential the stability control is. Will i need it or not? I am in the Uk and is raining all time..

It's not essential at all; we've been using cars for over 100 years without it. The 500, like almost all modern cars, is perfectly stable in the rain unless you drive it like an idiot.

I most certainly wouldn't let the absence of it influence my purchasing decision on a used car.

i find it useful in situations where there is some oil on the road on a slippery corner and you lose control suddenly without expecting. The stability control can react faster and better than you. It has happened = )

Same with ABS. I believe both are essential to modern cars on the road.

Does the 500 come with ABS as standard?

Yes. ABS has been a mandatory requirement on all type-approved passenger cars sold in the EU since 2004.

The only exception is for low volume cars which fall within the single vehicle approval scheme, such as the Caterham. That has no ABS, ASR, EBD, PAS, Brake Servo or Airbags - but you do get a seatbelt.

Thank you. That is good. However, i cant find a car within but budget that has ASR lol. I will keep looking but if i cant find i think it will be ok to buy one without it!

I've been driving without ASR with no problems.

Only once in my driving time would it probably have been useful that I noticed (bear in mind I'm a new driver so probably far more likely to need aids so I don't crash :D) it's never been a problem.

I wouldn't put off buying a good car if it comes up just because it doesn't have this! Just go careful when weather requires is always the answer. :)
