A couple of niggles with my new TwinAir. 2012 61 plate Lounge. When you start it, there is a knocking noise as it starts which you can actually feel through the floorpan/pedals, not quite sure where, but you can definately feel it in your feet. It's just a quick knock, and the car starts fine and runs fine. There may be just a slight knocking when driving. I'm thinking maybe the exhaust? I will be taking it to a local exhaust centre to get them to check, but wondered if anyone else has experienced this on a TA?

Also, there is not massive amount of travel in the clutch pedal and it feels a bit spongy for want of a better description and when you take your foot off the clutch there is a really annoying squeak Not sure if its coming from where the pedal itself meets the shaft, or whether from the mechanism further up. I squirted some WD40 upwards towards the mechanism of the pedal but it's made no difference. Anyone else experienced this?

WD is ok if it's carefully directed to where needed ensuring to keep clear of rubber or plastics, it will dry out though so for long term lubrication I suppose a light grease would be your man

Yes, my TA clutch squeaks too. It's not very loud, indeed I can only hear it without the radio on. It sounds like it comes from the pedal, but noises are notoriously difficult to trace. If it gets louder I'll try harder, otherwise treat it as a "characteristic"!

It is most likely to the the clutch fork bushes that have little or no grease. It seems they come like that from the factory now. I've seen many new panda's and 500's like that. The only cure is to take the gearbox out and re-grease the bushes with a paste that will no wash away, withstand heat and lubricate for years to come. A suitable grease would be Loctite 8012 with a very high percentage of MoS2.

Blimey that sounds like a job and a half

The easiest way to determine if it is the fork, is to have an assistant look under the bonnet and near where the gearbox joins the engine, listen for creaking squeaking. You may even be able to see the fork arm and the slave cylinder. If the noise originates from there you have your answer and unfortunately it is a rather big job, just for some grease!

Just got back from my local Tyre Pro place and they have had the car up on ramps. It's not the exhaust or heat shield, it's the dog bone rear engine stabiliser bay which for a twin air is half the price of the 1.2 at £24.95 including VAT from Fiat so I've ordered one.

As for the squeak, I filmed it and have link to it here. Strangely, it doesn't do it when the car is not in gear and it's only when you take your foot off, not when you put your foot on.

Reverse or forward makes no difference. Have a listen on the video. Any ideas anyone?
