General Which 500

General Which 500

As a avid classic mini driver I am sure that the fiat 500 is a lot more comfortable than a classic mini:D
I have travelled 1000s of miles in minis and the fact that I am not the biggest guy means I always found it fairly comfy, my journey to work is only 25 miles of motorway and takes me about 35 minutes so it's not mega hours behind the wheel.
I am planning to test drive but really wanted some insight into which model would best suit .

Cheers bobby

You'll be fine, they are OK on the motorway. I've done Shropshire to Glasgow and back in a day a few times with no issues, 600 miles ish.

I find the 500 seats very comfy, as does Honest John, but it undoubtably varies from person to person. I've travelled from Berkshire to both Norfolk and the Welsh borders and found it fine on the motorway. The TA engine isn't abnormally low revving, though - I think it's about 23mph/1000rpm in 5th, but the revs sound low because there is only one bang per rev.

I considered a 500 for daily long distance commuting a few years ago. I tested the TA85, which made me doubt between it and the Abarth.
I ended up buying a used car because I wasn't very certain of my job...

Since there is a TA105 now, that would be my choice if I'd buy a 500 now.

so if you are doing 70 on a motorway how does the TA behave ??

TA85 is perfectly comfortable at 70 (and beyond) on a motorway and it wont object to hilly sections either! My guess is if you were in to your classic minis you will enjoy the charachter of the TA. If I was buying new I'd opt for the 105 for sure but thats not to say the 85 is inadequate - for the car that it is it suits it well and will be more economical then the 105 too.:)

The more replies i get the more i am leaning to a TA, its great to have a forum that is so helpful, I just hope the TA can handle the 10k miles a year.

need to try and get a test drive over the weekend, dont spose anyone lives in surrey with a TA they wanna show off??

Don't stare blind on the number of cylinders or the total engine capacity, the more powerful car is the one that will get the least stress, and often better fuel consumption with the same driving style.

Being that i am closing on 40 I do not drive like a loony anymore but would like the extra umph on the motorway when overtaking but that said even on the motorway I tend to stay on the inside lane, of late it seems to be poisonous!! no one drives in that lane anymore:confused:

With a budget of 7.5k I would imagine what ever I buy will be closer to 20k miles

Good value but I fancey an soft top for out wonderful British summers lol

its certainly a buyers market, I am also in the price range for a abarth!!
