Hi, my 500 has the original DRL bulbs installed. I had a look on ebay for an led version of these but didn't see any. Does anyone know where I can get them?
 
Are your original DRL's still working? If so, why not just save your money? Ours are turned off......yup, I can hear people sucking through their teeth at that one lol! And no, I'm not getting into any arguments with anyone about whether you're safer with them on or off. I spend 80 percent of my working day on the motorway in a van that doesn't have them fitted (neither does my Saab) and it doesn't cause me any issues. If it causes others issues, I'd suggest a trip to the opticians! :p

I'm not entirely sure, but I've heard some LED replacement lamps can give lots of problems with the vehicle systems not recognising them. I'm sure someone will be along to give further advice.
 
As Frupi hinted, leds can give problems with the car's monitoring circuits. If the current falls when a bulb fails, it will tell you on the speedo.

Quite clever.... and just what I need, a message telling me that I've got to grovel under the car, exercising unknown levels of manual dexterity, to change a cursed drl bulb.

So, the never fail led bulbs might be thought of as a godsend here - except their exceptionally low operating current makes the monitoring system think the bulb has blown, so you get a permanent nag message.

I suspect that other cars that have these leds have the consumption programmed in, or they are older cars that don't have sophisticated monitoring systems.
 
You can avoid error code by using a Load Resistor LED Decoder / parallel resistor.

I bought a pair of these from an English seller on eBay that stated they were compatible with the 500. They got red hot within a minute. So much so that the resin started to melt :eek: contacted the seller and they refunded my money straight away with no problem.

Aside from the blown bulb error message, even with the load resistor ones, all LED aftermarket bulbs i've seen on cars have been very dull. The OEM bulbs are brighter.

It depends, a single led provides a brighter single point of light but the filament bulb throws light in all directions while a single led mainly throws it forwards so most of the light doesn't light the reflector bowl. You can get bulbs that are effectively strips of leds arranged to throw light in all directions, these are far brighter than a filament bulb. They also draw far more current than a single Led so are less likely to trigger a bulb warning.

Idont know about other fiats but punto mk2 low beam lights is looplights there you can add leds or xenon block but you cant have led highbeam lights or xenon highbeam lights ��---> its illegal and led parking lights same you can add leds and its not illegal
 
I'm a fan of the white/cold LED appearance, but many makers are sticking with or going back to the traditional yellow/creamy standard bulbs, quite surprised to see a neighbours 65 plate Audi with 'old' style bulb colouring.

Have you any experience with matching headlamp and DRL bulbs at all.....not sure my OCD can cope with ice white in one and creamy yellow in another !!!
 
You will struggle to find a decent Xenon white looking halogen that works well. The ones that look the most white are usually illegal and the legal ones are crap at throwing a decent amount of light down the road. I used to prefer the Osram night breakers but now think that that the Philips X-treme Vision +130% are the best legal compromise. I have these in the static cornering lights of my other car and they don't look out of place as the rest of the headlight units are Bi Xenon. It would do my head in too if they looked yellowy.
 
I did buy w21 5w super white bulbs from Xenons4u.co.uk and the look was quite similar to LED bulbs and it was much more cheaper and the best part is no errors on the dashboard!
 
I still have a couple of OEM bulbs left, so I'll use them up before going down an LED route. I bought a couple of double packets a year or so ago.

The OEM bulbs don't seem to last too well. The car is coming up to six years old, and I've replaced five of them. Yes, I could turn the DRLs off of course.

These were suggested on a different thread about DRLs and seem ok.
Yes, I know they aren't legal for road use, but I would happily take the risk.
