Sure I'll do that. Thanks for the tip.

Wow not what I want to hear! I'm at 40k already so I hope it blows before my warranty expires next year! Then I'll sell it maybe.

Zagame looked after me service wise but they aren't cheap. Look up Alfa dealers?/indies they may be able to help? I at least know zagame service the car but you get hit like always at a dealer.

Maybe I should advise the partner to trade in the 1200 DL before it reaches similar km, reading these things does nothing for one's confidence in the car.

If you get a good price and are out of warranty, do it!

Good idea. At least the manual gearbox has many less things that can go wrong if you want to switch it to that !

Can you swap a DL to a manual?

To offer a bit of perspective on this - from what I have read elsewhere and have heard from a specialist in NZ, it sounds like the problems begin with a fluid leak, from the gearchange position sensors. Can this (simple) fluid leak be fixed?

The official policy is complete actuator replacement, but until we hear of other problems happening, is it worth perhaps fixing the fluid leak? Ahmett I think you had that done, yet had other problems? What happened?

Exactly Alex I had several problems with it going into neutral that no software fix would change. Then eventually it seized, we fitted a new actuator that fixed the problem for a while, but then going into neutral again. Eventually it started leaking by itself slowly slowly which went on and on until it seized again and the whole unit was replaced this time.

I recommend changing the whole unit as it saves a lot of potential hassle, at least for a year or two or until you get rid of the car. I doubt you'd be able to sell it for much with oil coming out the bottom or it going into neutral on a test drive

Oh and if I had changed the system immediately , I would have saved 700 euros of pointless repairs to lengthen the life of the unit !

I'm sorry you're so (understandably) exasperated with Fiat CS.

Cold comfort, but you're not the first. They are completely unpredictable . Some folks here have had good experiences; for others it's been a painful head banging session that's ultimately resulted in absolutely no goodwill gesture at all.

Realistically, on a 5yr old car that's well out of warranty, I wouldn't expect they'll offer you much. Maybe 10% off the parts if you pay a main dealer to fit it. For your sake, I hope I'm wrong about this.

I guess you're following the other current thread on this issue.

My original advice stands - go to an independent fiat specialist & if they can clear the warnings & restore functionality, drive it straight round to your favourite car showroom and trade it in for something else before it fails completely.

Re: Dualogic gearbox nightmare......

Git the car through 3rd party finance (could be a bit tricky to get a refund).
Am I right in saying that if the part is changed the car will ok. Truth is I live the car and can't find another one like it at the moment...

If you can get the complete selespeed unit replaced under warranty, you should be OK.

However this will likely cost more than the seller's entire profit margin on the car, so I doubt they will do this unless there is absolutely no alternative.

More likely they will patch it up to get it past the three months warranty period. Once that warranty has expired, you'll be on your own.

This is not a cheap repair, if done properly. Well into four figures; and seemingly more still if you happen to live in Australia.
