My 500 has what looks like a stone chip on the leading edge of the Panoramic roof which has led to a long very fine crack turning into a scratch.

Only part of it can be seen from inside the car so it obviously hasn't got passed the "black" layer.

Has anyone ever repaired one of these roofs. I know I can pick up a second hand roof for a couple of hundred quid, but really don't want the expense of replacing it if I can help it.

Has anyone ever repaired one with resin which is apparently 3 times stronger than glass?

Or has anyone ever had one changed? What was the labour cost for that?

Will probably get one of the windscreen companies to come out and have a look but I can guess what they will say, they want the business.

Just checked my insurance, I do have windscreen/sunroof cover. It says it doesn't included panoramic windscreens, but it's not a windscreen, so hopefully, I will be covered although it's only to a value of £450 and I believe these glass roofs new are well over £1,000

I'm not sure where you're based but a friend of mine is an independent vehicle glass specialist, it might be worth looking for someone like this in your area, he frequently does screen replacements cheaper than the insurance excess so well worth looking in to.

I believe this glass is a big part of the body structure so if cracked then it's very likely to need replacing the existing crack is probably a result of a stone chip that has been extended by twisting of the body shell

I have taken the car to a window replacement company today and they advise that it is not repairable. Covered on insurance but as glass only covers up to £450. As a normal claim I would have to pay £350 excess and as a second car I am not using my no claims so don't have protected no claims I don't think!

Have been given a contact by the bloke I use for bodywork and he has given me a price of £85 to fit new one. I have found a replacement second hand for £200, so it's a no brainier. Less than £300 to replace it, so I shall not be going through the insurance.

So, here's the glass roof. Drove over to Essex to collect it this morning. Car will soon be back to perfection!

Well done on finding a second hand one and finding someone to fit it at a good price, bit of a relief for you! :)

Yes definitely. Managed to get it for £200 and the bloke whose going to fit it has taken them out from the cut out part of the car like I've bought and re-fitted them before too, so he says he already knows exactly how to do it.

That reminds me, I must ring him.

Big relief. Will try and get some photos when he's doing it

Very pleased today. My car ha now had the "new" glass roof installed. Took the fitter nearly 4 hours. Only charged me £85. Good job done at a good price.

Some photos during attached.

wow great price for 4 hours of labor congratulations for beating the system! LOL i wonder how much fiat would charge for the job? maybe you should ask a fiat main dealer just for a laugh!

Was the job done outside?

It's not been dry here for more than an hour or two for some days. Wind has been blowing a gale too. It all seems to have passed through now thank goodness, but it certainly hasn't been a nice enough for taking the roof off a car.

Any road up, well done that man! :)

Greetings,
Mick.

The bloke from essex sells them on eBay. Problem I am facing is finding a fitter who can take the roof off the old cut away one without damaging it. I am based in South (Thames Valley) so if anyone knows of a fitter can you let me know as this is so frustrating (trying to sell it and no-one is going to go near it with the crack). I have just dropped TypeCastBoy a message as his man is just who I am after!!

So many thanks to TypeCast Boy for matey boys number :slayer: He came out to Reading last weekend and did the roof replacement for £160. The roof from eBay was £300 including delivery so much cheaper than the £2,500 Fiat Slough wanted.

I will keep his number for a while in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Peace

p.s my Fiat 500 is now up for sale on classifieds

That's amazing, we just brought I fiat 500 and are looking for somebody to change the static panaramic roof as it is cracked ? do you think he would be able to repair ours.

Thanks for your help.

I had one replaced. It had a large crack and a chip you can’t really repair it. I bought a second hand one for £200 and paid a windscreen fitter £80 to take the old one out and fit the new one.

That's a great price, I called a few places and not got much joy to be honest. I found the glass for 250 on ebay, just need a decent fitter. We're in Dartford, Kent. Thanks for the prompt reply.

Oh yes please that would be great, local to happy days [emoji16] thank you so much for you kindness.

His name is Colin and his number is 07860 526787. Tell him Paul from Orpington gave you his number. He’ll do you a good price. It might have gone up a bit as it was a couple of years ago.

I use him regularly for windscreens
