Hi,

My 500 1.4 has a boot opening problem.

The door opens if i use the remote, but if i press the lid button, i feel the click, but it won't open, Could it be a fuse somewhere or is it the button?

Thank you

First thing to try is locking and unlocking the car a couple of times, just in case something needs to be 'reset' - you might also like to try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

If the fault persists, there are two likely causes:

- broken wires in the wiring into the tailgate. Peel back the corrugated tubing (by carefully pulling the grommet out of the tailgate) and look for broken wire ends. If there are broken wires, it is best to make up new wires and join them inside the tailgate and above the roof lining - don't try to make joins inside the corrugated tubing as they will probably break again.

- dust in the micro switch of the handle. Take the handle off and expose the switch as best you can; spray lots of contact cleaner inside and operate the switch a few hundred times - a multimeter will be helpful to check whether the resistance is within reasonable limits (a few ohms with the switch closed).

My Lounge had this problem about a year ago. I tried a couple of things mentioned here on the forum but, as the car was under warranty, didn't cut open the seal on the back of the handle to access the switch because it might have compromised a claim. FIAT fixed it but the 'repair' involved replacing the entire handle assembly - expensive.

I understand from a previous thread that you should be able to replace the micro-switch with a generic unit if necessary.

How old is the car? Is it still under warranty? Top tip, if it is still under warranty, don't waste your time trying to clean or open anything to do with the boot micro switch. This is a common problem and both of our 500's have had the rear boot micro switch replaced under warranty without fuss.

The mere fact the part is freely available from Fiat dealers selling online, kind of gives a clue that it is a common replacement item:

If it's out of warranty, by all means, give it a go taking it apart or squirting it with something......:D

Hi everyone, thank for your replies.

My car is from 2007 with 70.000 km in the odometer.

It "impecable" as long as i can see from the short trips i've made.

The only flaw so far it's the mentioned problem and the internal light that's a little loose.
I'll try to see if theres any broken wire and also try the cleaner.

Thank you
