If anyone could assist, It would be a massive help!

I've recently purchased a fiat500s from a local dealer, the car group have purchased a great deal of 500s' but with a specification suitable for their requirements to then sell the cars on! HOWEVER, the car I've purchased is missing the dashboard predisposition for the BLUE&ME TOMTOM cradle....

A couple of questions...

1) Whats the viability of fitting the dashboard fixture myself, if at all possible? I've seen the advertised on auction sites (such as eBay) but not sure how I'd work it.

2) Could I approach FIAT themselves to modify the dashboard, as it is offered as a genuine initial optional extra when bought from new.

3) LAST BUT NOT LEAST...failing that, I understand the BLUE&ME compatible tom-toms connect via a bluetooth connection BUT will the tom-tom still correspond with the 7" TFT display on the new Fiat 500s' if it isn't connected via the respective cradle offered by fiat from new (which i do not have)

Again, any help would be brilliant, it's my first new car and I'm scratching for ideas!

Cheers

From what I can gather, if you haven't got the factory fit dash pod for Blue and Me TomTom, then forget any idea of trying to have it retro fitted. Too much work and cost involved.

Our TA Lounge does have the dash pod. I bought a genuine Fiat TomTom holder, but we have the TomTom GO 5000 which didn't quite fit correctly in the holder. I modified it so that it does, but the holder costs £50, so I had to be careful about exactly how I modified it. Anyway, not that it helps you any, but mine works a treat! :D

I know it can be an utter pain in the butt for some people, but personally, I'd just buy a TomTom GO 5000 or similar and have done with it. Free map updates for the life of the unit and in the case of the GO 5000, it has its own inbuilt sim card so it doesn't rob data off your phone like some of the other models do.

I have a fully integrated Denso Satnav infotainment system in my Saab 9-3 but I never use the satnav because I can neither update the mapping (and trust me, the DVD mapping supplied on the 2007 disc is so very very out of date!), so I use TomTom live traffic all the time on my GO Live 820. Yes it's another bit of kit stuck to the window, but it is far superior to the now woefully out of date kit in the car that came out of the factory.

The new mount says something about a a pillar mount any one know how this works?

Is there power to the mount also where does it fit?

The Fiat B&M Tom-Tom is junk, don't trouble yourself trying to fit one.

There may be loads of other systems available, but the B+M Tomtom isn't junk as far as I'm concerned. It works very well and suits me fine.

Improvement I would make would be speaking through the car sound system instead of the internal speaker, but that is all.

Regards,
Mick.

Likewise. I find the TomTom accurate, loud and clear, and after wo years I'm very happy with it.

This is the mount I am after!

Its from a Lancia Yplison which I think is based on the Chrysler.

Yes that's right, just would like to mount on the a-pillar like that

Unless I'm mistaken, the new TFT display (Uconnect?) completely replaces the TomTom socket, so new cars no longer offer the Port 68R socket.

Which is a bummer for me, but I'm sure I'm in the minority. I really liked being able to bring a new TomTom device and have it fit in the cradle mount -- SO MUCH better than having it hanging off your windscreen and having cables dangling everywhere.

Sounds like you'd have to pay a specialist to do a custom modification to your car to install a mount. I don't think anybody on a forum would be able to help with that.

This thread has now reminded me that I have a modified genuine Fiat tomtom dash cradle to sell (along with a Haynes Manual, 4 steel wheels with tyres and anything else I can turf out).

Personally, I wouldn't buy the TomTom Blue and Me unit, the Go 5000 is much better imo, but of course it doesn't interact with the car's systems like the B+M unit does.

The connections on the mount are purely to power and charge the tom tom everything else happens by the magic that is blue tooth.

First Time Post! We are due to collect our (well my OH's) 65 plate 1.2 Vintage 57 in Volare in a couple of weeks. It took us a little while to find the right car (well the colour!) and we really wanted one with the 68R port, but couldn't find one.

So, as we would'nt be using the Sat Nav each day, I was resigned to purchasing the TomTom Blue&Me 2 and using a screen mount. Easy, or so I thought!

I had a read through the site and seemed comfortable that the TT would work as designed, albeit that we would have to live with some wires.

I found a new unit on eBay and checked with the seller that it would be compatible, only to be told that it would not work without a "Software Hack" I presume to allow the Blue&Me to talk to the TT.

Can somebody please clarify if the magic does really happen over Bluetooth!

The FIAT supplied TomTom connects via Blue&Me with the car's system to display trip computer data, interact with your phone (if also connected via Bluetooth) and run the sound system. It basically duplicates the functions of the steering wheel buttons. If you just need to know where you're going you don't need all that.

I've never come across anywhere you could download the FIAT software in any case.

Thanks Piccolo for the prompt reply! I thought that my understanding of the Blue&Me system was correct.

I have PMd you, I am interested in the das cradle and the manual.
