Evening all,

I encountered an unsual issue with my 500's (1.2 Pop, '09 plate, 25000mi) headlights today. I was following a bus and glanced away briefly, when I looked back I could have sworn my headlights had just come on. At the time I assumed it was my imagination.

A little later on, I was driving in to work and I noticed the headlights went off and came back on again.

There were no messages on the dash, the lights went out for less than a second. I don't think the green light indicating 'lights on' went out at all.

I've opened up both fuse boxes and pushed all the fuses and relays to ensure they are seated properly. I've got hold of another relay to replace R2 in case that is the issue, but I havent changed it yet.

Any ideas as to what could cause this problem?

Many thanks,

James

James,

I don't think that it would be a relay, as they normally fail open circuit. If it is the same as the Panda a friend of mine had a stalk fail, it was the wiring on the stalk that had developed a problem. I am surprised that more don't fail, considering the number of functions there are on the stalk.

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply,

Since I posted, the issue hasn't come back up again - unfortunately when it comes to headlights it becomes a bit of a panic - if they stop working entirely there is the risk of being stranded, and at 7am after a 12 hour nightshift I want to get home not dig around trying to fix this sort of issue! lol!

I am going to look for the grounding point, I think its shown in the Haynes manual for the car, and check it over thoroughly. If it comes down to the stalk unfortunately I will just have to wait for the problem to develop further!

Thanks again for your input

James
