That's kind of my point. I'm not going to leave over this or anything, but why do people feel the need to jump on me every time I mention the forum rules to a newbie?

you should treat newbies more kindly. give them a break. if they do it the first time, leave them alone. if they keep on messing up, send them a personal message. don't publicly be be mean to them, you'll scare them off. instead of saying oh what a nice picture and saying welcome to the forum, you immediately attack them. that is not nice.

and since you like being the most combative member of the forum so much, be prepared for criticism. its natural. complaining about it only makes you look bad.

Mean? I merely said "No offence, but the place for blog type posts like this is members motors"

If that's mean then by golly it's a soft place we live in today. I chose not to reply the first time that particular poster chose to announce to the internet that she'd driven on an unsealed road because I knew the reaction that would result from my post.

by saying no offense, you are basically being mean by default = ) i would most certainly not want my first ever post on a forum to be replied with a , 'no offence' as the first words!

And that's not what happened........ You and others are doing a brilliant job of misrepresenting the facts. Some would even say that you're lying, I'd be inclined to agree.

Going slightly off topic I would be interested to know why @Palma500s has disliked a couple of posts that were purely factual.

It may go someway to explain why people seem to think that order is a 'bad' thing.

Happy to oblige and respond to your request :)

The comments to which you refer were not factual but opinions. Opinions which I disagreed with because they are (in my opinion) petty and small minded. Therefore I disliked them.

I believe everybody should lighten up and not dissuade new members from posting.

The problem is that while in your opinion they are petty and small minded they are about the rules. If rules are not upheld then there is no point having rules in the first place. Personally I think this whole situation came about because a few people are unhappy with the way Maxi dealt with someone breaking the rules. Now this may be because his reputation goes before him and I've had run ins in the past with him but I understand where he's coming from and in this instance I find that I agree with him, that posts should go in the right section. Maybe there was a better way to handle it (I can't comment on that because I didn't see the original posts) but in principle he is in the right.

As an aside because of the way I view the forum (reading only new posts) it matters not to me what section the posts are in as I see them in time/date order, with the only filtering being reducing it down to the Fiats I own, as I suspect many others do, so am somewhat unaware of what sub-section they are posted in. This may have led to people making the initial mis-understanding.

This thread isn't making a great deal of sense to me, but I have picked out the gist of it.

Why?
Because I have Maxi on my "ignore list" due to his combative nature.
BTW, I have no issue whatsoever with people having posts in an incorrect place. The mods are there to spring clean and sort. Just flag it up to them and they'll do the rest. It isn't up to us to complain.

Regards,
Mick.

With my pedantic head on, surely if your flagging it up to a mod (which is what I would do) you are complaining by default :p so it is up to us to complain ;)

I'm not debating the rules as such though, just the fact that you get crucified when you try to point the rules out. But yes I suppose I am debating Jrkitching's enforement of said rules so I'd be a rather massive hypocrite to choose to disagree with the rules......

If I may chime in here...

This hasn't been removed...

I could have deleted it, but Maxi clearly has a grievance about how I've moderated this issue and wanted a public debate - as a long standing member, I felt he deserved that.

It's an exceptional, one-off decision taken out of respect for Maxi's contribution to the forum and one which I take full responsibility for. It's not intended to set a precedent.

I'll quote again, now you edited 5 minutes after you read my post.

one-off's lead to other one-offs don't they? Surely if you can do it, then so can other mods, then it becomes a free for all doesn't it?
