General Low part exchange value

Thanks.

Car sold to a very old friend for the absolute bargain price of £6k(y)

I had higher firm offers from trusted friends but went to the first as I'm that kind of chap :)

I'm back to where I was in November so I'm happy.

These are the glasses values as of last Monday:-

Not a 500 but my GPA (2010, 4K miles) was valued as a p/x at 5.5K. Needles to say, not enough. But, its a known fact that Punto residuals were always low... 500 owners - welcome to the real world of Fiat ;)

On the other side of the coin, a bit of negotiating could usually get you a new Fiat with a discount of 20-25% off list price.

Or even, I believe, membership of certain clubs, professions etc, would get you an automatic discount.

Being in the police, for example,or a member of a cycling club (can't remember which one). It was discussed on here not so long ago.

Maybe the fall in the cost of fuel is making small cars less desirable.

Probably just supply and demand - a lot of 500's are coming up to the trade in point and, with the economy on the rise, folks are more likely to buy new - so there's a surplus of 3yr old cars overhanging the market just now.

Also it won't be long now until the new 500 is shown. Once this happens previous 500s values will bomb even more. Now is the perfect time to sell your 500 if you're thinking of it.

The perfect time was probably about six months ago. There's plenty of evidence that the trade is being ultra conservative in valuing 500's just now, for many of the reasons we've been discussing in this thread.

But I'd agree used values have quite a bit further to fall before they're in line with most other Fiats.

I suspect in the future more cars are simply going to be returned at the end of a PCP agreement. Folks entering into new agreements might want to consider GAP insurance (but shop around for it), since they will likely be in negative equity for most of the agreement term.

Folks buying used 500's are probably more at risk from the double whammy of high depreciation and unbudgeted repairs and need to be careful not to overpay.

I wouldn't necessarily bet on that happening. Aside from the fact that we have no real idea when the new 500 is coming:eek:, there's always the chance that any new model won't be truly appreciated.

You only have to look at the new Panda; it has often been the case over the past year that previous gen Pandas have attracted higher used prices than the current model, which is bonkers!

Maybe not that surprising; this may prove controversial, but IMO the Mk3 Panda is the better car (at least in 1.2 form).

And I'll bet any money you like the 100HP is more likely to become an appreciating classic than the Panda TA, even with the 105HP engine.

Fiat haven't shown any inclination towards replacing the 500 just yet. Stop reading Auto Express :) I think the 500 will be here in current form for at least a good 2-3 years at least.

I didn't say that, I merely say that dealers don't necessarily have more info than you or I.

The dealer has probably read the Auto Express fantasy article and taken it as fact. They're good like that.....

haha good old 100 hp. I guess i'll be keeping my car for a while then, the engine seems bulletproof! my main worries are my gearbox and of course not being able to see my coolant level easily (just topped it up as it was at the minimum mark apparently according to my service center)

Yep, the fizzy 100HP is certainly an easy engine to love and I've decided to keep my ageing 1.4 Sport, which has been very reliable for its first 6 years. For some reason I can't see 100HP 500s achieving classic status though, unlike the Panda 100HP which could well become sought after future cheap classic.

Pity that Fiat somehow engineered out some of the fun factor when they decided to put the 1.4 100 and the 6-speed box in the 500
