Probably a daft question but the boy has been to visit earlier in his Punto Evo. He asked me what ASR was. Did the googling and was impressed. Hopefully it will help him out greatly over the winter.

He asked me if I'd got it on my 1.2 500, my answer, not a bloody clue.

I know he has a button on his controls to turn it off and on, I've not paid that much attention but I'm assuming if I have its in the menu systems.

So, does the 1.2 Lounge have ASR?

Not as standard you have to pay for it due fiats stinginess and recklessness . However I think new models do have itbecause the eu forced all new cars on sale to come with it! I believe this change happened 2014?

So bottom line; pre 2014 unless u chose it no, post 2014 all cars come with it as standard

Maybe that's why the 1.2 PoP starts at 10,420 gbp. Madness !

Ooh he's going to love having one up on me then isn't he

I don't have the button, mine is a February 2012 61 plate so not new enough to have it fitted as standard either. Booo

I've not been through a winter with mine yet but I'm guessing given its thinner tyres it's not too bad in snow and ice?

It's certainly acceptable on standard tyres, but in winter conditions, it's well worth considering fitting winter tyres - there's a small thread on that subject here.

I had my 1.2 lounge dualogic on 25th September 2014, it came with ASR, And hillstart to my surprise. when I ordered it they said 12 week wait but they found one with my extras on in a day (7" TFT screen and Climate). I don't know if it was standard or just had them on.

Granted it's in a different market but my 2012 build TA Lounge has all these things (apart from the flash display of course).

I'd rather have winter tyres than ASR/ESP for sustained winter driving. ASR is a hindrance as it detects wheelspin (as you get in snow/ice) and reduces engine output accordingly.

Hence the switch, the manual even tells you to switch it off on ice/ snow.;) ESP is always on and a very good idea on snow.

Correct, but how many people actually read the manual, understand what ASR is/does and remember to switch it off on ice/snow? ";)"

You'll note I didn't say it wasn't. However, I stand by my comment that given a car on summer tyres with ESP or a car on winter tyres without ESP I'd take the car with winter tyres for a journey with snow/ice about. Everytime. ";)"

yes. you can turn off the asr button which means you do not have traction control (cutting power to the wheels under acceleration), but you 100% of the time will have stability control (adding braking power to the car on 4 wheels separately depending on the situation when you lose control). It is impossible to turn off the stability control unless you find a way to disable it on the body computer.

Notice how that's what I said. ESP is on it's own ECU and not in the body computer BTW. I haven't tried but ESP/ABS can be killed by pulling the fuse normally. Only time mine's kicked in is at 160km/h on a tight bumpy corner. I didn't need ESC but I guess the bumps confused it. Scared me a bit as it's not all that predictable. On a smooth race track, no issues. The intervention threshold seems set high enough.

Mechanical grip FTW!
