Hi All
I have just serviced my wifes 40k 2011 500 Twinair (Couldn't afford the £400 Fiat wanted) Changed the oil and filter, topped up to the right level but now I am getting a red oil light & low pressure warning. It says to turn off the engine.
The light only comes on at low revs (below about 1200rpm. It goes out above that.
All help gratefully received

Is there oil on the car ? Maybe you need some diagnostic reset I'll leave it to the experts to help you out

The ECU does require an oil change reset afaik but you need the right kit for that. I dont think it would cause this though but it might well. A few obvious checks - have you definitely used the correct grade oil? Are you sure about the level? it's very difficult to see on dipstick when oil is fresh.

No. It is a Blue Print part no ADA102130. Bought from local parts dealer. I may just put the old one back in to see if you are right.
Thanks
G

I did think of that, but I cannot think the light would go out as the revs get higher.
Thanks

Please read the following thread, it may be of use to you:

https://www.fiatforum.com/500/300343-ta-first-service.html

And I agree concerning the oil filter, use genuine Fiat filter only and the correct oil spec.

Oh, welcome by the way. ;)

Pretty sure the oil is correct and I measured out 3.2l. You are right about seeing the level and the colour of the dipstick doesn't seem to help. It is at the top of the marked section but I was not sure if you measure by resting the stick or by screwing it in.

screw it in until it clicks, obviously make sure car is level!

Have you read this guide?

Personally I wouldn't risk an aftermarket filter just to save a few pounds.

I'd agree with MEP that it's something to do with the replacement filter.

:eek::eek::eek:

NO!!!!

This risks introducing contamination into the engine - don't do it.

Use a new OEM filter instead. I know they're the wrong side of £20, which is absolutely scandalous, but it'll cost you way more than that if you end up wrecking your engine.

I read that guide (and very good it is!), but it put me off ever wanting to do an oil change on the TA because of the 'requirement' to carry out a diagnostic reset after changing the oil and filter. I have no intention of ever buying MultiECUScan, so I guess either Fiat will be first choice every time, or the very good indpendent I used for the last POP as I'm sure he has the proper equipment to do the appropriate reset procedures.

Why ever not?

You need decent tools if you are to have any chance of properly maintaining a car yourself.

I don't see any difference between buying a copy of MES and buying a torque wrench; you simply can't do some jobs properly without them, and the cost is not that large when viewed alongside the labour rates charged by garages these days.

I bought a genuine filter from here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-FIAT-500-Grande-Punto-Panda-OIL-FILTER-0-9-Petrol-Twin-Air-/271379273813?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AFiat|Model%3A500&hash=item3f2f771855

I paid just £12 for mine inclusive of delivery. They had them on special. It'll get used on the next oil change.

Shows just how much of a markup there is on OEM service parts when franchised dealers can sell 'em on eBay for prices like this.

You've misinterpeted my post jr, I have NO intention of carrying out any service routines on our TA other than checking the oil level, tyre pressures and the rest of the dead basic stuff. The old POP wasn't an issue, but this one, I aint touching! Unlike my Saab 9-3 Fiat engined 1.9 diesel, which I do almost all of the work on.

Hi All
An update.
Just put the old filter back in and Roberts your fathers brother - no warning light or message. Unfortunately I have now contaminated the new oil so tomorrow I will start again but this time with a Fiat filter and new oil. I will be expecting the local Parts Shop (Mill Autos) to refund me for the filter, replace the oil I have wasted and remove the offending item (Blue Print part no ADA102130) from all of their shelves.
Lesson learned and a very big thanks to all for your help

If you remember last year, we had the same conversation about genuine Fiat boxed spark plugs for the POP. I paid £12 delivered for genuine Fiat boxed plugs that the dealerships were allegedly charging nearly £70 for, so yes, the mark ups can be eye watering.

Thanks for the update (y).

Let us know how you get on at the parts shop.

The OEM plugs for the Euro5 1.2 were designed & made by NGK specifically for that engine, so it really makes no difference whether they come in a Fiat box or not, providing they're genuine NGK plugs :).

Yes, I was fully aware of those facts. The NGK boxed plugs were the same price as the Fiat boxed plugs. I bought the Fiat boxed plugs for the sole reason that the old POP was still under warranty when I changed the plugs at the second service. The genuine Fiat plugs have the FPT, Lancia branding on them, so if the plugs were ever pulled by Fiat at a subsequent service, no one could argue that the correct 'Fiat' branded plugs were used during the warranty period. No point in giving any organisation an excuse to argue the toss on what constitutes OEM. (y)

Lol! I just actually bothered to look at the service sheet from the franchise concerning the breakdown of the actual cost of the service, which by the way was £149 inc VAT.

The filter cost £25 excluding VAT.

Now when you consider that I bought a genuine Fiat boxed oil filter for £12 from a Fiat dealer selling on ebay, any reasonable person might well surmise that buying in the bulk quantitites that Fiat dealers do, then the cost to them will be significantly cheaper than what we end up paying on a dealer service.

For me though, there really is no point in complaining about the price of the first service. At the end of the day I bought the car at a hefty discount. The car had two warranty issues sorted during the service, was valeted and it is at least fully recorded with the Fiat dealership network. Therefore, the £25 for the oil filter is just something I'll live with.

Going back to the OP's original issue, I guess further advice would be to get the diagnostic reset done once the new filter/oil are replaced. I'm not sure what the consequences are of not having this done? I'm assuming that the engine oil reset will just keep popping up on the display?
