My experience is similar but I have only done 1,800 miles so far. I have seen 69.8 on a gentle A road run but average 45 over a tank. But that does include a fair amount of London Traffic. But went for a B road blast the other night. My brother who drives a Porsche and a Caterham drove it and loved it. But then again he certainly needs therapy.

sad as it is and needing therapy, anyone got a TA picture with 70 mpg on the dial ?
 
Don't know what is beyond M25, never been that far out. No seriously the traffic is unpredictable and roadworks a nuisance, its not worth speeding as there are unmarked cars around.
i drive to leicester so the road becomes proper empty after M25!

Sorry, Ahmett - they're everywhere, especially on those stretches which have a variable speed limit.

Most roadworks now also have average speed cameras to protect the restricted section.

Speed limits in the UK are now quite strictly enforced. You will likely get a fixed penalty if going more than 10% above the posted limit +2mph. Seriously exceeding the speed limit will get you a stiffer penalty - more than 30mph over the limit and you will be disqualified from driving unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Speed limits on the major motorways do on occasion get set to 40mph, so there are times when driving at 71mph could get you an instant ban.

Agree entirely. I use the M1 five days a week, my run being a 240 mile round trip Monday to Friday. The stretch I'm always careful on, is J25 to J30, overhead gantry cameras (they do work by the way I see them flash off often when fools are racing through at well over the speed limit) and loads of average speed cameras through all of the road works, especially around J28 where they are doing major improvements where the A38 crosses it.

For those that don't believe those yellow average speed cameras actually work or aren't wired in, think again. A work colleague of mine recently received a speeding ticket for averaging 66 mph through a 50mph section. What makes me laugh, are the fools who speed up between the cameras, then slow down to 50mph just as they are approaching them thinking they have fooled the cameras :bang:

As for my speedo dial in both my works van and in my car, they both read about 2mph over the actual speed being done. I know this because those radar speed signs you often see at the gateway to villages, are actually pretty much spot on accurate. I was actually chuffed to bits to see a marked traffic car pull some moron doing 45mph through a 30 zone in a village just the other day. And another work colleague of mine found out just the other day after she got caught doing 46mph in a 30 zone, that it gets very expensive. I think she's been offered a speed rehabilitation course.
 
Tbh I don't see why you can't drive a TA economically and a 1.2 quickly.


MY commute to work usually works out at 60mpg +/- 5mpg either way while doing 55-60 on the dual carriageway bits.


Yesterday I woke up a bit late and had to get to work quickly, it got me there with 2 minutes to spare and did 40mpg which should give you an idea of how quickly I had to go.........


Don't get me wrong, if you're going to drive like your pants are on fire every day then twinair all the way, but anyone who thinks a 1.2 is that much quicker in real life obviously hasn't driven one that's well run in like mine! The 1.2 feels as quick as it is, the twinair feels quicker than it is.
 
To be honest, it wrankles me slightly that my Saab 1.9 tid does over 50mpg on a run and about 46mpg on a usual commute (not city stuff, then I only get about 36mpg), but that's still a helluva lot better than my old Cadillac which barely managed 11mpg (actually glad that has gone lol!), and the TA manages average about 45mpg most of the time. Still, again, it is zero road tax whereas my Saab is £180 a year, but better than the several hundred the old car cost in tax.
 
any mpg figures available for the ta 105? i am really curious how it compares to my 1.4

I am thinking about 40 mpg for the ta 105.
 
Having 105hp is a distinct advantage!


It's interesting though that the 105 has the same torque figure as the 85 albeit occuring at 3000rpm as opposed to 1900 in the 85. I like that my 85 pulls from low down with ease particularly in 3rd which makes for great town driving. So are you reving the 105 more and flying through the gears to get a move on?
 
Hi mercy and aarorat. I have posted similar answers before but the short story is that as the 105 has a 6 speed box you have plenty of ratios to choose from but yes you do tend to be changing gear. But like any car though you soon adapt to get the best out of it.
As for mpgs the short answer is 45 on the commute 50 on a longer run 60 on a gentle run and the best I have seen is 68.9 on a ten mile A road run at a constant 50mph. It is sensitive to use of the fun button and the right foot but can get good economy by driving gently and you can have a lot of fun when the mpg boredom kicks in. There are faster cars and there are more economical cars but it just makes me smile. Apologies if I am repeating myself but I typed a response earlier but it just disappeared. It may reappear and so be repetition. Sorry if that happens.
 
Sorry 69.8 not 68.9. A bit further and I am sure it would have got over 70.
Anyone buying one for mpgs alone is going to be disappointed unless they drive like a nun and never encounter any traffic or traffic lights. But the TA has a lot else going for it.

45 is reasonable i am thinking 40 with my driving style. mine shows 33.8 mpg with the 1.4 but i have michelin pilot tires 195's which really ruin fuel economy. I am putting dunlop sport blu response 185's and i am thinking my fuel economy will go up to 38 mpg with it easy. the car feels slow and heavy on 195's and i dont like the feel of it, even with the increased grip.
 
240 mile trip today, mostly motorway with about 80 miles of secondary roads, returned 61.3mpg, kept it in Eco mode and speed around 65-70.
