Did anyone buy extended warranty? Any thoughts?

What are you being offered, and at what price?

Generally speaking, this sort of thing when sold by the dealership costs 2-3 times as much as you'd pay if you searched the 'net & bought something similar.

Might be worthwhile looking at GAP insurance - again, don't buy from the dealer or you'll pay well over the odds.

And don't waste your money on a dealer-supplied paint protection product like supagard or easygard.

I was offered it for 600 euros for 2 extra years, with hindsight I have spent about that much on non service repairs since then which comes out to the same thing, except the fact that I got them fixed outside of a fiat dealer = )

My dealer gave me a 3 year extended warranty at no extra cost - looks quite comprehensive and credible- only catch is I must service the car at their dealership ...

I can see why you say that, but I'll see what service costs are involved.
I negotiated a free service during the first 12 months of ownership... If the costs are outrageous when I do have to pay then I won't bother returning.
It would have to be pricey for me to swap dealers and the dealership is only 3kms from home so very convenient.

Any idiot can service a 500. No need to visit a stealer really.

Heck, even I can do it ;).

Until of course something complicated happens to the electronics, but judging by what's been posted here I wouldn't hold out much hope for a franchised dealer then either.

And that's not a dig at Fiat per se; with most current cars, once out of warranty, you're only one warning light away from a four figure bill.

I tried to get them to give me first service free but they said they can't do it

I did, I bought 2 years extra warranty (via Swann WarrantyAssist) for a total of 5 years warranty altogether for ~$1100. Looking back, I don't think it was worth it.

I was concerned about the long term reliability of the 500 but I don't think I'd do it now, in retrospect. If something's going to break, chances are it'll do so within the first 3 years of the factory warranty.

At least the Swann extended warranty allows you to get your car serviced at any licensed mechanic, not just your dealership. But still, not worth it in the end. If something breaks in the 5th year of ownership, they'd probably claim it as "normal wear and tear" and deny the repair claim anyway.

Better just to save your $1.1K and then use that in the unlikely event that something major stuffs up.

Btw, anyone know if the 2014 Fiat 500 still has that passenger underseat compartment?

I was trying to figure it out if there's any but couldn't, anyone can share some lights on this?

Tell that to Fiat AU:
Agreed, Fiat Australia are definately referring to the series 3 update.

This from an internal Fiat Australia document:

"Model Overview The Fiat 500 Series 3 update brings a host of enhancements to the already successful Fiat 500 range. The update introduces important new product features in terms of style and technological content....

....But one of the most significant new features of the Fiat 500 is undoubtedly the innovative digital instrument panel, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli....the new instrument panel is standard on the 500S and Lounge..."
